What does a New Product Introduction Engineer do?

A New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer is responsible for managing the process of bringing new products from the design phase into full-scale manufacturing. They collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure products are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet quality standards. NPI Engineers develop and optimize manufacturing processes, coordinate pilot builds, and troubleshoot issues that arise during production ramp-up. Their work is crucial for a smooth transition from prototype to mass production, helping companies launch new products efficiently and successfully.

Job description

Role Overview

Kodak is looking for a Product Engineer to join our Printed Electronics team onsite in Rochester, New York.

This is a Product Engineer position in the printed electronics organization, reporting to the VP, Printed Electronics.  The printed electronics manufacturing process utilizes production-scale, roll-to-roll equipment in class 1,000 and 10,000 cleanroom environments. The equipment is used for the development and manufacturing of printed electronics using two fundamental process blocks:  1) flexographic printing and 2) electroless copper plating. Printed electronics products are tested for performance both in-line on roll-to-roll equipment, as well as off-line.
The scope of this position includes responsibilities for both new and existing products. An understanding of the robust manufacturing design required to meet customer specifications is necessary for success in this role.  It is expected that the successful candidate will be comfortable leading customer commercialization programs.  An ideal candidate will have a strong track record of presenting compelling data analysis to drive decisions and buy-in from all parties - from the customer to management to the shop-floor.
This is a role that requires strong collaboration across the organization, with individual responsibility for determining and implementing product release specification within the manufacturing environment for new products.

Responsibilities:
Work with Operations and Quality Managers on new and existing products to ensure outgoing product quality through end-to-end process oversight.
Establish and communicate product specifications to Operations and Quality that ensure outgoing product quality.
Collaborate with Operations and Engineering to optimize manufacturing of new and existing products to improve product cost, quality, and delivery.
Lead commercialization efforts to develop customer-specific product designs that meet both customer end-use and manufacturing production process requirements
Serve on Manufacturing and Operations teams addressing current product engineering and design-for-manufacturability improvements.
Work with Business Development Director to identify product opportunities, translate customer requirements and lead analyses of the manufacturing upgrades required to support product roadmaps.

Required Skills:
Experience working in a contract manufacturing organization
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical issues across stakeholder groups and drive to resolution
Ability to work in a flexible R&D / low-volume manufacturing operation, with experience in volume manufacturing and ability to support rapid ramp-up from pilot scale to production.
   Experience working on cross-functional teams
   Experience using statistical analysis tools

Desired Skills:
Knowledge of the printed and/or flexible electronics film markets and products
Experience in roll-to-roll manufacturing, functional printing, printed electronics, flexible electronics, and/or additive manufacturing.
Understanding of transparent conductive films properties
   Experience in project management

Minimum Experience Level
3 to 6 years

Educational Requirements
Minimum B.S. Degree in a relevant technical field, such as engineering, material science, or physics
