Product Manager - Power Generation

Roper Pump Company

Commerce, GA โ€ข On-site

Full-time

Posted 9 days ago

Job description

A major focus of this role is quotation ownership and order execution. The Product Manager prepares and reviews quotes for new build units and aftermarket repair work, confirms scope and technical requirements with the customer, applies appropriate pricing and lead times, and then follows the resulting orders through the factory to ensure committed delivery dates are met. This requires close daily coordination with Manufacturing, Production Planning, and Procurement so that material and capacity constraints are identified early rather than at the ship date.
The Product Manager is also accountable for delivering new product development on time and on budget, including the 3-gear pump program and other assigned development projects, working closely with Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, and the customer. In support of the product line's growth, this position represents Roper Pump at industry trade shows and leads customer meetings both online and in person as business needs require.
Essential Functions
Quoting - New Build and Repair
  • Prepare, review, and issue quotations for new build power generation pumps and for aftermarket repair work, ensuring accurate scope, pricing, lead time, and commercial terms.
  • Review customer inquiries, specifications, drawings, and bid documents to define the technical scope of each quote and identify deviations, exceptions, or non-standard requirements early.
  • Work with Engineering and Procurement to obtain the cost, material, and lead-time inputs needed to quote accurately and competitively.
  • Scope repair opportunities in coordination with the repair shop and Engineering, determining feasibility and pricing for teardown, inspection, reverse engineering, and refurbishment work.
  • Maintain the quotation log for the product line and follow up on open quotes to support order conversion, win/loss understanding, and accurate forecasting.
  • Review the cost and price structure of new build and repair offerings to support profitability and strategic pricing decisions.
  • Identify, recommend, and help execute gross margin improvement initiatives in coordination with Sourcing, Manufacturing, Finance, and Commercial leadership.
  • Partner with Inside Sales and Commercial leadership to develop and refine pricing models for new build, spare parts, and repair services.

Project Routing and On-Time Delivery
  • Route new build and repair projects through the factory, ensuring each job is properly released, routed, scheduled, and sequenced to support the committed delivery date.
  • Partner with Manufacturing and Production Planning to monitor job status, identify bottlenecks, and escalate risks that could threaten on-time delivery.
  • Maintain clear line of sight for Manufacturing and Procurement so that material, component, and long-lead part requirements are identified early and ordered in time to support the schedule.
  • Serve as the internal owner of delivery commitments for power generation orders, communicating status, revised dates, and recovery plans to customers and Commercial leadership.
  • Track on-time delivery performance for the product line and drive corrective action when the schedule slips.
  • Coordinate expedites, order changes, and priority conflicts between competing jobs in a way that balances customer commitments with factory capacity.

New Product Development
  • Lead the 3-gear pump program and other assigned new product development projects, ensuring they are completed on time, on budget, and to the agreed technical and commercial requirements.
  • Manage development projects from concept through commercialization, ensuring customer and commercial specifications are clearly defined, communicated, and achieved.
  • Own the development budget for assigned programs, tracking spend against plan and flagging variances early.
  • Utilize project management tools such as TeamGuru to develop and maintain timelines, monitor key milestones, document action items, and identify risks that could impact launch timing.
  • Coordinate prototype builds, testing, and validation with Engineering and Manufacturing, and incorporate results into design and production readiness decisions.
  • Work with Procurement to qualify suppliers, secure tooling and castings, and establish the supply chain required to support launch and production volumes.
  • Serve as the central point of contact between Engineering, Commercial, Manufacturing, Procurement, and the customer to keep programs aligned and progressing toward launch.
  • Ensure new products are transitioned cleanly into production with complete documentation, routings, bills of material, and manufacturing instructions in place.

Customer and Market Engagement
  • Represent the power generation product line at industry trade shows, conferences, and customer events.
  • Conduct customer meetings online and in person as needed, including technical reviews, quote clarification, program updates, and application discussions.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with key OEM, EPC, end user, and channel partner contacts within the power generation market.
  • Gather and analyze customer feedback, market input, and competitive intelligence to support product strategy, positioning, and go-to-market initiatives.
  • Monitor field performance, warranty trends, and repair shop findings to identify opportunities for product improvement, cost reduction, or market expansion.
  • Support the creation and review of technical marketing materials for the power generation portfolio, including datasheets, application guides, case studies, and presentations.
  • Deliver product and application training to internal stakeholders, sales teams, and channel partners on product functionality, applications, and value propositions.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in product management, applications engineering, inside sales, quotations, or project management within a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with power generation equipment, rotating equipment, gear pumps, or fuel oil and lube oil systems is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, customer specifications, and bills of material, and to translate customer requirements into actionable project and manufacturing needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities against firm delivery dates.
  • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing workflow, including order entry, routing, scheduling, and shop floor status.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for project management and cross-functional team coordination.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn project tracking tools such as TeamGuru or similar platforms.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to perform cost analysis, margin analysis, and pricing reviews using tools such as Microsoft Excel.
  • Clear, confident communicator, comfortable leading meetings, presenting to customers, and facilitating discussions across departments.
  • Highly detail-oriented, with a commitment to quote accuracy, thorough documentation, and disciplined action tracking.
  • Customer-focused mindset with strong interest in on-time execution, commercialization, and profitable product growth.
Work Environment
The position is primarily office-based (Commerce GA), with regular time spent on the manufacturing floor and in the repair shop, as well as periodic visits to customer sites and trade shows. The employee may be exposed to moderate noise levels or industrial environments during floor and site visits.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to sit, work on a computer, and engage in meetings for extended periods
  • Occasional lifting of items up to 25 lbs. (e.g., manuals, samples, display units)
  • Ability to walk the manufacturing and repair areas, including standing for periods during job reviews and inspections
  • Travel up to 10-15% may be required for customer visits, trade shows, training, or site support
Work Schedule
This is a full-time position. Standard working hours are Monday through Friday. Flexibility may be required based on business needs, customer time zones, or travel commitments.
