Job description

Software Engineer II

Be part of an engineering team that builds new tools to support the entire Appian Engineering department! You'll help ensure our platform engineering teams have all the tools and services they need to thrive and delivery high quality features to customers.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The team you will be joining supports two critical areas in the development lifecycle: maintaining robust test automation frameworks and even more critical automated release process for the Appian platform. We work with all stakeholders in the company, from platform engineers to support staff assisting customers, providing an opportunity to see the entire development and delivery cycle in action.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As a Software Engineer II on this team, you will help maintain the services that contribute to the automated testing and release frameworks, as well as create new services and tools that enable our platform engineers to produce higher quality code at a faster pace. Additionally, you'll help evaluate new tools that could be of use to the department.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Develop Quality Code: write clean, dependable and highly tested code that maintains our critical services, and bootstrap new projects.
  • Leverage AI Responsibly: Use our trove of agentic tools to aid in your development, without losing a sense of personal craftsmanship.
  • Engage with Internal Stakeholders: work with our direct users to address their feedback and find new ways to improve their workflows.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field. (Equivalent experience is not accepted in lieu of a degree).
  • Prior Experience: Previous software development exposure (at least 1-2 years) gained through full-time work experience.
  • Language Command: Technical fluency in at least one modern programming language, preferably Python, Go or Rust.
  • Foundational Cloud Native Understanding: Understand how to use service providers like AWS, Azure or GCP to develop cloud native or serverless solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent spoken and written communication skills with a passion for collaborative problem-solving.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with AWS and modern web technologies.
  • Previous experience working on a team that supports internal engineering teams.
  • Scripting experience with bash or python
