The Semmes Murphey Clinic's mission is to deliver the best care for people suffering from neurological illness while advancing the field of neuroscience.ย 


Our Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) is looking for a Registered Nurse (RN). In this role, you will work closely with a comprehensive team to provide personalized patient care in pre and post operative and or procedural setting. Our ASC is open Monday to Friday and hours in this role are approximately 6:45 am - 3:00 pm. We are closed on the weekends and holidays.ย 


To qualify for PRN, we require a minimum availability of two shifts a pay period (biweekly). We also ask for availability on one Friday a month.ย PRN employees are not eligible for benefits.ย 

Key Responsibilities Include:ย 

  • Documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patientsย 
  • Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment and suppliesย 
  • Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patientย 
  • Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patientย 
  • Explains procedures and treatments to patients to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehensionย 
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniquesย 
  • Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by the physician and/or surgery center policy, including patient and family instructionย 

Requirements

Minimum:

  • Associates degree from an accredited school of nursingย 
  • One (1) year of experienceย 
  • Active RN license in TN or compactย 
  • BLS Certification up to date

Preferred

  • ACLS Certificationย 
  • Ambulatory Surgery Center experienceย 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilitiesย 

  • Proficient computer skills to process, store and retrieve health information; knowledge of data entry and coding software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word), electronic medical records (EMR) and medical practice software
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret verbal orders and direction
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Can work with focused concentration
  • Ability to make frequent judgments and respond to routine problems
