New Grad Asic Design Verification Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a New Grad ASIC Design Verification Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a New Grad ASIC Design Verification Engineer, you need a solid understanding of digital design principles, hardware description languages (such as Verilog or VHDL), and a relevant degree in electrical or computer engineering. Familiarity with industry-standard verification tools and environments like SystemVerilog, UVM, and simulation/debugging platforms is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective teamwork skills help you excel in diagnosing issues and collaborating with design teams. These skills and qualities ensure robust verification processes that lead to functional, reliable ASIC products.

What are some common challenges new graduates face when starting as an ASIC Design Verification Engineer, and how can they overcome them?

New grad ASIC Design Verification Engineers often encounter challenges such as understanding complex verification environments, learning industry-standard tools and methodologies like UVM, and effectively debugging hardware designs. To overcome these, it's helpful to actively seek mentorship from experienced team members, participate in code reviews, and utilize available documentation and training resources. Collaborating closely with designers and verification leads, asking questions, and consistently practicing hands-on simulations can accelerate learning and build confidence in tackling verification tasks.

What does a New Grad ASIC Design Verification Engineer do?

A New Grad ASIC Design Verification Engineer is responsible for testing and validating the design of Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) to ensure they meet functional and performance specifications. They typically create testbenches, develop verification plans, write test cases using hardware description languages like SystemVerilog, and debug issues found during simulations. This role is crucial for catching design flaws before manufacturing, working closely with design engineers and using both manual and automated verification methods. As a new graduate, you will learn industry-standard verification methodologies and tools while contributing to the success of the silicon development process.

What is the difference between New Grad Asic Design Verification Engineer vs New Grad Digital Design Engineer?

AspectNew Grad Asic Design Verification EngineerNew Grad Digital Design Engineer
Required SkillsHardware verification, simulation, scripting, HDL knowledgeDigital circuit design, HDL coding, logic design
Work EnvironmentVerification labs, simulation tools, hardware testingDesign teams, FPGA/ASIC development, coding
Industry UsagePrimarily in semiconductor and chip companiesBroadly in electronics, semiconductor, and tech firms

While both roles require HDL knowledge and work in semiconductor environments, the New Grad Asic Design Verification Engineer focuses on verifying and testing ASIC designs, whereas the New Grad Digital Design Engineer is involved in designing digital circuits. Both roles are essential in chip development but differ in their primary responsibilities and skill emphasis.

Company Description

The right fit candidate for the right position.

Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION Product Overview: Cognitive Safety Systems' remarkable power to help keep people safer relies on a suite of sensors and advanced electronics that make vehicles smarter. We create intelligent systems that enhance the safety of pedestrians, drivers and passengers by combining our active and passive technologies. Using proprietary algorithms, these intelligent systems sense, calculate and adapt to help drivers avoid or mitigate an accident. Incorporating this advanced awareness yields a higher level of safety, efficiency, comfort and convenience. Essential to the success of these systems are highly sophisticated and technologically advanced ASICs (application specific integrated circuits) which improve overall system performance, while reducing size, weight and cost. Maintaining a competitive advantage requires the best and most innovative engineers to develop these ASICs. Job Summary: The responsibilities for a Principal Engineer in Company's Global Electronics Engineering - Semiconductor Core Development team include the development of Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC) and Application Specific Standard Products (ASSP) for the Airbag electronics products Responsibilities: Work within the Company ASIC team while developing expertise and ownership of key ASIC circuit blocks. Architectural development and specification construction Functional and safety verification including developing test requirements, testing and test oversight. Interacting heavily with ASIC supplier design, testing and safety organizations to guide, review, and approve design implementation activities, perform safety analysis, confirm specification compliance, resolve issues, and support device returns analysis. Interfacing with the Company core and application module engineers to gather requirements, provide expert development and integration support, and verify the ASIC within an ECU. Participation in cross organizational teams to establish strategic plans in the area of ASIC and architectures development and application of best practices across product lines. Support in implementing and maintaining a world class ASIC development process for Company.

Qualifications

Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required. Master's degree in Electrical Engineering required. 10 + years of mixed signal ASIC development/design and/or automotive electronic design experience experience with automotive ASIC, ASSP, or FPGA development required. Strong laboratory skills with experience interfacing to embedded systems. Experience with validation of analog and digital circuits/systems. Experience with automotive safety methods (FMEA, FTA) and familiarity with functional safety standard ISO 26262 highly required Familiarity with semiconductor industry trends and best practices (continuous improvement, zero defect, quality processes, AEC-Q100, state of the art testing and manufacturing, etc.). Highly motivated and able to work with little direct oversight in a collaborative environment. Strong time management skills. Excellent communication/networking skills. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Proficient using spreadsheets, word processing, simulation/analysis software, and ECAD tools. Experience managing subcontracted engineering resources (e.g. for analysis and verification work) desired. Familiarity with Hardware Description Languages such as VHDL or Verilog and verification/validation of ASIC design desired. CANDIDATE MUST HAVE VERIFICATION Must have a Master''s degree to be considered a Technical Specialist Must have work that is published Must be a Technical expert for ASIC Job Requirements & Qualifications: Visa Requirements: U.S. Citizens / Green Card Holder
