How much do neuropathy jobs pay per hour?
What is neuropathy?
Neuropathy is not a job title, but a medical condition affecting the nerves, often causing pain, weakness, and numbness. However, professionals who diagnose and treat neuropathy include neurologists, pain specialists, and physical therapists. These healthcare providers assess nerve damage, recommend treatments, and help patients manage symptoms to improve their quality of life. If you're interested in working in this field, careers in neurology, physical therapy, or pain management may be relevant.
What are some common challenges faced by healthcare professionals specializing in neuropathy care?
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a neuropathy specialist, and why are they important?
What is the difference between Neuropathy vs Physical Therapist?
| Aspect | Neuropathy | Physical Therapist |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Medical training, often neurologist or specialist certifications | Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree, state licensure |
| Work Environment | Hospitals, clinics, neurology practices | Rehabilitation centers, hospitals, outpatient clinics |
| Industry Usage | Healthcare, neurology | Rehabilitation, healthcare |
| Common Search/Comparison | Neuropathy diagnosis and treatment | Physical therapy for nerve-related issues |
Neuropathy refers to nerve damage or dysfunction, often requiring medical diagnosis and treatment by specialists. Physical therapists focus on restoring movement and function through therapy, often helping patients with nerve-related conditions. While both roles are within healthcare, neuropathy is a diagnosis or condition, whereas physical therapy is a treatment approach used to manage symptoms and improve quality of life.

Job description
Emory University is a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world-class talent to innovate today and prepare leaders for the future. We welcome candidates who can contribute to the excellence of our academic community.
Description
The Emory + Children's Pediatric Institute, in collaboration with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, is seeking one full-time Pediatric Neuropsychologist (1.0 FTE) in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Neurology. Our team is committed to providing high quality clinical care, building strong research collaborations, and offering varied training experiences. This neuropsychologist will conduct outpatient evaluations as well as support our epilepsy team, predominantly at the Scottish Rite campus. Experience conducting epilepsy-specific assessments and procedures (pre- and post-surgical evaluations, fMRI, Wada, cortical mapping, SEEG) is highly desired. Opportunities for providing consultative services in outpatient medical clinics is also possible.
Our Pediatric Neuropsychology Team
The Department of Neuropsychology at Children's is one of the largest in the Southeast region. Our team currently includes 13 neuropsychologists (7 are board certified), five psychometrists, and an accredited training program. The Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) is located on the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite campus.
In general, our group sees patients with complex medical and neurological histories throughout development (birth to age 20) in different settings (inpatient, outpatient, clinics) at different time points (acute, chronic) covering various subspecialties. Primary referral sources include Neurology, Neurosurgery, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), and Cardiology. Common diagnoses seen in our department include acquired injuries (e.g., TBI, spinal cord injury, anoxic brain injury, stroke, abusive head trauma [AHT]), new onset illness (e.g., meningitis/encephalitis, brain tumors), congenital heart disease, as well as various neurodevelopmental and chronic neurological conditions (e.g., cerebral palsy, spina bifida, intractable epilepsy).
Access to psychometry support is provided and opportunities for collaborative research with established investigators are available. Our group has an APPCN-affiliated postdoctoral fellowship in Pediatric Neuropsychology and an APA-accredited internship. Providers are involved in the supervision of trainees, including doctoral level graduate students (externs), interns, and fellows.
Minimum Qualifications
Requirements include a doctoral degree from an accredited (APA/CPA) training program and a formal postdoctoral fellowship in neuropsychology with an emphasis on pediatrics. Candidates should be license eligible in Georgia and hold (or be prepared to seek) board certification in Clinical Neuropsychology (ABPP/ABCN). Our team is committed to providing resources for individuals from diverse backgrounds with bilingual (Spanish/English) providers and staff. Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.
