The Nurse Manager – Neuro/Telemetry oversees a 36-bed neuroscience unit caring for stroke, neurosurgical, epilepsy monitoring (EMU), and neuro progressive care patients in a telemetry-capable environment. This role ensures safe, age-appropriate patient care and leads an engaged team of nurses and support staff focused on excellent clinical outcomes and patient experience.
Responsibilities
Provide 24/7 leadership for a neuroscience / neuro-telemetry unit, ensuring delivery of safe, high-quality, age-appropriate care.
Serve as a clinical resource and role model for nurses caring for stroke, neurosurgery, EMU, and neuro progressive monitoring patients in a telemetry setting.
Plan, organize, and prioritize daily unit operations based on staffing, acuity, and patient flow requirements.
Promote evidence-based practice and compliance with standards related to stroke and neuroscience care, including NIHSS use and telemetry monitoring.
Oversee performance management, including chart audits, PI/quality monitoring, direct observation, and peer feedback.
Conduct timely staff evaluations using objective, measurable criteria aligned with quality, safety, and service goals.
Set unit benchmarks for quality, patient satisfaction, and staff engagement; monitor results and implement improvement plans as needed.
Participate in hiring, onboarding, coaching, counseling, and retention strategies for nursing and support staff.
Maintain clinical competence in neuro/telemetry nursing and step in to support direct patient care when required.
Collaborate with physicians, ancillary services, and leadership to optimize care pathways for stroke, neurosurgery, and complex neuro patients.
Ensure regulatory readiness and adherence to policies, procedures, and professional practice standards.
Support throughput, bed management, and safe transitions of care in coordination with other departments.
Qualifications
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice (or eligibility to obtain prior to start).
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification strongly preferred.
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or completion within a defined timeframe after hire preferred.
Minimum 2 years of recent direct neuro or neuro-telemetry nursing experience in an acute care hospital.
3–5 years of progressive hospital nurse leadership/management experience, including prior Nurse Manager or equivalent role.
Demonstrated experience managing telemetry-capable units or step-down/progressive care environments.
Ideal candidate profile
Proven track record leading a hospital-based neuro and/or neuro-telemetry nursing unit with at least 3 years of Nurse Manager experience.
Strong background in stroke care, neuroscience patient populations, and telemetry monitoring.
