BRMi is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to support the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Hosting and Storage Services On-Premise Cloud Support program. The Network Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing enterprise network infrastructure that supports NIH's integrated hosting platform and mission-critical biomedical research systems.
This position will support the planning, configuration, administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and modernization of enterprise network technologies across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments. The Network Engineer will work closely with systems, cloud, cybersecurity, storage, database, and application teams to ensure secure, resilient, and high-performing network services supporting enterprise hosting operations.

Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, configure, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure supporting NIH hosting services.
  • Configure and support routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and network security appliances.
  • Monitor network performance, availability, utilization, and capacity to ensure reliable operations.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity, latency, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and firewall issues.
  • Support network integration for physical, virtual, and cloud-hosted infrastructure.
  • Implement and maintain network segmentation, VLANs, routing protocols, and secure communications.
  • Support enterprise cloud networking within AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Assist with network architecture planning, technology refresh initiatives, and infrastructure modernization projects.
  • Configure and maintain network monitoring and management tools.
  • Support disaster recovery, business continuity, and high-availability network solutions.
  • Coordinate network changes through established change management and configuration management processes.
  • Develop and maintain network diagrams, engineering documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and operational runbooks.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity personnel to implement network security controls and remediate vulnerabilities.
  • Perform root cause analysis for network incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Participate in scheduled maintenance windows and provide after-hours operational support as required.
  • Collaborate with Government personnel, vendors, and cross-functional technical teams to support enterprise hosting services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education, technical training, and experience.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience supporting enterprise network engineering and administration.
  • Experience configuring and supporting Cisco routers, switches, and enterprise networking equipment.
  • Experience with TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and network security.
  • Experience supporting enterprise firewalls and network security technologies.
  • Experience supporting hybrid cloud and enterprise network environments.
  • Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Knowledge of network redundancy, high availability, and disaster recovery concepts.
  • Experience supporting Windows and Linux enterprise environments.
  • Knowledge of ITIL service management practices.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary technical team.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a NIH Public Trust
