What You'll Do
As a Senior Principal Network Reliability Engineer, you will:
  • Provide technical leadership for the deployment, operation, and lifecycle management of OCI's global network infrastructure.
  • Define and drive the long-term strategy for network reliability, operational excellence, and infrastructure scalability.
  • Lead complex engineering initiatives supporting AI infrastructure, new OCI Regions, backbone expansion, and large-scale network deployments.
  • Influence architecture and technical decisions across Network Engineering, Network Automation, Infrastructure Engineering, Product Engineering, and Operations.
  • Champion automation by establishing engineering standards, identifying strategic opportunities, and partnering with software engineering teams to deliver scalable automation solutions.
  • Drive systemic improvements that eliminate recurring operational issues through engineering, architecture, automation, and process improvements.
  • Establish engineering standards, deployment methodologies, operational practices, and reliability metrics used across multiple organizations.
  • Serve as the senior technical advisor during large-scale production events, executive escalations, and critical customer issues.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and influence vendor and internal technology roadmaps.
  • Partner with Product Management, PMO, Capacity Planning, Construction, Hardware Engineering, and Operations to successfully deliver network infrastructure at hyperscale.
  • Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders while fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Leverage AI-assisted engineering capabilities to improve technical analysis, operational planning, documentation, and engineering productivity while ensuring sound engineering judgment and technical quality.

Responsibilities
As a Senior Principal Network Reliability Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for the design, deployment, reliability, and operational excellence of OCI's global network. You will influence engineering strategy across organizations, define technical direction, establish engineering standards, and lead initiatives that improve the scalability, resilience, and operational excellence of one of the world's largest cloud networks.
Technical Leadership
Success in this role requires exceptional technical depth combined with the ability to influence engineering organizations.
You will:
  • Define long-term technical strategy for network reliability and infrastructure evolution.
  • Lead architecture reviews for large-scale network and infrastructure initiatives.
  • Drive standardization across deployment, operations, lifecycle management, and reliability engineering.
  • Build consensus across engineering organizations to solve complex technical challenges.
  • Guide automation strategy and platform evolution through technical leadership and organizational influence.
  • Influence technology decisions through operational experience, architectural expertise, and data-driven engineering.
  • Represent NRB in executive reviews and cross-organizational technical discussions.

We're looking for an engineering leader who combines deep networking expertise with strategic thinking, operational excellence, and the ability to influence organizations.
Successful candidates have a proven record of leading complex infrastructure initiatives, driving engineering strategy across multiple organizations, and improving reliability through architecture, operational discipline, automation strategy, and technical leadership. They build alignment across teams, mentor engineers, and create scalable solutions that enable the success of the broader organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Network Engineering
  • Expert knowledge of hyperscale cloud networking or Tier 1 service provider environments.
  • Deep expertise in routing, transport, optical networking, backbone, internet connectivity, data center fabrics, and large-scale network architecture.
  • Strong understanding of BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, EVPN, VXLAN, IPv4, IPv6, DNS, DHCP, and network reliability principles.
  • Experience designing and operating highly available cloud infrastructure supporting mission-critical services.
  • Experience supporting AI infrastructure, GPU networking, or large-scale data center deployments.
  • Experience leading large-scale network lifecycle management, deployment, and operational readiness.
Reliability Engineering
  • Extensive experience improving operational excellence across large-scale cloud infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex root cause analysis and implementing systemic improvements.
  • Experience establishing engineering standards, deployment methodologies, and operational best practices.
  • Strong understanding of service reliability, operational readiness, observability, capacity planning, and lifecycle management.
Leadership
  • Demonstrated success leading complex cross-organizational engineering initiatives.
  • Proven ability to influence technical direction without direct organizational authority.
  • Experience mentoring senior engineers and developing future technical leaders.
  • Strong executive communication, stakeholder management, and presentation skills.
  • Experience collaborating with Product Management, PMO, Operations, Construction, Hardware Engineering, and vendor partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to shape engineering strategy, organizational priorities, and long-term technology direction.

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $126,200 to $264,100 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
