The Network Planning Analyst supports the Data Science and Analytics Team within Network Planning by analyzing, implementing, and communicating critical updates to Southwest Airlines' published flight schedules.They'lluse data and modeling toidentifytrends, generate insights, and develop recommendations that inform schedule creation and execution.They'lleffectively communicate analysis and proposals to the broader Team and Senior Leadership, including highly visible audiences, while contributing to strategic initiatives with creativity and flexibility. The Network Planning Analyst plays a key role in transforming complex data into actionable insights that optimize network performance and support Southwest's operational and financial success.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize the flight scheduling software at an intermediate level to be able to add, delete, change equipment, and adjust flights to produce the best schedule possible
  • Assists with complex, highly visible flight schedule revisions
  • Monitor a checklist to create zero-defect flight schedules
  • Utilize various scheduling techniques to clear violations of operational constraints while minimizing impact to commercial timings
  • Identify complex schedule changes and how to apply these in the schedule software
  • Analyze impact of changes to operational and commercial constraints in the schedule
  • Understand the impact changes to the schedule have on the system and Customer
  • Identify opportunities to increase revenue and reduce costs in the schedule
  • Create the individual week schedules in preparation for schedule publication
  • Utilize the flight scheduling software to be able to finalize and create files for distribution
  • Utilize Amadeus products to check flight loads and validate schedules
  • Assist with complex, highly visible flight schedule reporting
  • Apply knowledge and skills of analysis, business processes, tools, domains, project methodologies, requirements definitions, and testing to solve a range of problems
  • Develop standard reports by building queries to pull and organize data from various sources, establishing the frequency, and validating the necessity of the report based upon the needs of the organization
  • Identify problems, performs root cause analysis, investigates information, performs impact analysis, and formulates and executes plans to develop solutions
  • Create and presents data analytics, both written and oral, to Manager
  • Provide routine and ad hoc reporting regarding flight schedule revisions to Team
  • Communicate business insights and analysis regarding flight schedule revisions
  • Deliver timely, zero-defect data analysis
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders

Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
  • Intermediate level experience, fully functioning broad knowledge in:
    • Airline network planning including flight schedule alignment with commercial and operational impact, industry-leading capabilities, and aircraft scheduling techniques
    • Microsoft Excel
    • Microsoft Office suite
    • Written and verbal communication
    • Handling multiple concurrent projects and prioritizing accordingly
  • Preferred: Experience using SQL and Python or R for data querying, analysis, and modeling
  • Preferred:Experience building dashboards and visual analytics in Tableau or Power BI
  • Preferred:Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms and analytics environments
  • Preferred:Proficiencyin PowerPoint, with the ability to clearly present analytical findings
  • Preferred:Strong data storytelling skills, including translating complex analyses into clear, actionable insights
  • Preferred:Familiarity with machine learning or data science concepts, including building, evaluating, or applying analytical models
  • Preferred:Prior experience or background in the airline or transportation industry, or in consulting environments supporting data analyticsTeams

Pay & Benefits:

  • Competitive market salary from $ 81,200.00 per year to $90,200.00 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
