Job Title: Project Engineer
Location: CGS Upper Sandusky or CGS Fostoria
Position Type: Full-Time, On-Site
Reports To: Senior Program & Project Manager
Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated, entry-level Project Engineer to support the successful development and launch of new product development (NPD) projects and customer OE programs within our glass manufacturing operations. This position serves as an engineering liaison between customers, sales, manufacturing, quality, and production teams to ensure engineering projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with customer specifications and quality standards.
The ideal candidate will have project management skills, experience in a manufacturing environment a plus, design and/or manufacturing engineering skills and proficiency in CAD software (2D & 3D) for product design, tooling, and engineering documentation. SolidWorks preferred but not required.
Working closely with Commercial Sales team, Program Managers, Project Managers, NPD engineering team and Launch teams. Working with Manufacturing Production teams to investigate manufacturing challenges and work with cross-functional teams to develop practical engineering solutions.
You will also work with the quality teams and participate in root cause investigations and implementation of corrective actions for engineering and manufacturing issues. Identify opportunities to improve engineering documentation, manufacturing processes, and project execution.
This role will support engineering designs, CAD designs, CAD drawings, organizing projects, preparing materials, updating internal systems, and assisting with documentation and project management. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, self-motivated individual with a desire to contribute to cross-functional team success. Hands-on tasks on the manufacturing floor will be required to support and drive projects to completion.
This position provides an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to gain experience in product development, manufacturing engineering, customer interaction, and project management while working on automotive and specialty glass products.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with internal and external customers to support project timing, design tasks, and launch related projects.
  • Manage multiple projects at the same time to complete the project tasks to meet the project plan.
  • Create parts, assemblies, and drawings in CAD software for quoting and production use.
  • Design, develop and improve the management process of customer CAD data and storage.
  • Track and document customer data for launch and production use.
  • Analyze customer data to identify requirements and manufacturability.
  • Support new projects, launches, and production trials.
  • Assist with physically moving or organizing parts and materials to the correct locations within the plant for each phase of the launch.
  • Support setup and coordination of sample builds, ensuring tools, labels, documentation, and materials are ready and available.
  • Assist Quality and Manufacturing teams in evaluating prototype and production parts, documenting observations, and communicating potential concerns.
  • Document in-process activities and assist in collecting data during pilot runs or development builds.
  • Track status of open items, part readiness steps, and documentation closure across multiple systems.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in engineering or related field; technical coursework or production experience preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and data entry systems); familiarity with ERP systems a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills with an eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Effective communication skills and a willingness to work closely with cross-functional team members.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment (on feet, moving parts, navigating shop floor).
  • Ability to read customer drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to interpret designs and drawings with an understanding of GD&T.
  • Strong working knowledge of CAD software (SolidWorks preferred, but not required)
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to stand and walk throughout a manufacturing facility for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
