Job description

Bain Capital is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to design, deploy, and operate enterprise network infrastructure across on‑premises environments and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).

This role bridges hands‑on operational execution with emerging architectural responsibility and is expected to contribute meaningfully to automation and modernization initiatives while serving as a technical resource for junior engineers on the team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Network Operations & Engineering: Own day‑to‑day operations, monitoring, and troubleshooting of on‑premises and cloud‑connected network infrastructure across global offices and data centers. Lead incident response for complex network issues, performing root cause analysis and driving resolution with minimal supervision. Manage global carrier services and connectivity across EMEA, APAC, and the Americas. Maintain and improve operational documentation, including network diagrams, runbooks, and change records. Participate in an after‑hours/on‑call rotation for critical incidents.
  • Infrastructure Design & Deployment: Design and implement network solutions for LAN, WAN, wireless, and hybrid cloud connectivity, working within and contributing to established architectural standards. Configure and deploy Aruba and/or Cisco infrastructure, including routing, switching, and wireless platforms. Lead network hardware and software lifecycle management, including capacity planning, patching, and firmware upgrades. Evaluate new technologies and provide recommendations to senior architects.
  • Cloud & Hybrid Connectivity: Implement and support hybrid connectivity between on‑premises environments and AWS/Azure, including AWS Direct Connect, Azure ExpressRoute, and VPN configurations. Apply cloud networking concepts (VPCs, VNets, routing, security groups) to support both operational and project‑level needs. Collaborate with cloud and systems teams to ensure consistent and secure network integration across environments.
  • Automation & IaC: Actively develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and Git for network provisioning and configuration management. Write and maintain scripts (Python, Shell, or PowerShell) to automate repetitive tasks and improve operational efficiency. Contribute to CI/CD pipeline development and support the team’s broader IaC adoption goals. Serve as a practitioner‑level resource for automation tooling within the network team.
  • Firewall & Security: Administer Check Point firewalls, including rulebase management, policy optimization, and VPN configuration. Manage Aruba ClearPass NAC policies for network access control, authentication, and segmentation. Ensure adherence to Bain Capital’s network security standards across all environments and assist in driving compliance across the broader infrastructure.
  • Mentorship & Collaboration: Provide technical guidance and day‑to‑day mentorship to Network Engineers on the team. Participate in design and architecture discussions, contributing operational insight and engineering perspective. Collaborate cross‑functionally with infrastructure, security, and cloud teams on shared initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 6 years of enterprise networking experience in a hands‑on engineering or operations role.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with Aruba and/or Cisco LAN, WAN, and wireless infrastructure.
  • Solid understanding of dynamic routing protocols (BGP, OSPF) and Layer 2 technologies (VLANs, STP, QoS).
  • Experience administering Check Point firewalls, including policy management and VPN troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of AWS and/or Azure networking (VPCs/VNets, routing, Direct Connect/ExpressRoute, VPN connectivity).
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language for network automation tasks.
  • Experience leading incident response and root cause analysis for complex network issues.
  • Strong documentation skills and familiarity with ITIL‑aligned change management processes.
  • Preferred exposure to Aruba ClearPass NAC for access control and segmentation.
  • Prior experience with Terraform and Git in an enterprise environment; willingness to achieve working proficiency within 6–12 months if not yet experienced.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks in a network engineering context.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as CCNP, Aruba Certified Professional, or AWS/Azure networking associate or professional level.
Compensation & Benefits

Expected annual base salary: $130,000–$155,000 (actual base will vary by role, experience, location, and performance). In addition to competitive base salary, the position may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus based on individual impact, team and firm performance. Bain Capital offers a comprehensive benefits package supporting health, financial security, family needs, and overall well‑being.
