POSITION TITLE
Lead Network Engineer - Cloud Networks
POSITION LOCATION
Richmond, VA or Lynchburg, VA - A Hybrid schedule of both Remote and In-Office days is required. In office days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with working hours targeting our core business hours of 9am-5pm EST.
YOUR ROLE
As a member of the Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE), you will play a critical role in enabling cloud adoption across the enterprise by serving as the bridge between infrastructure architecture and engineering execution for cloud networking.
This role focuses on translating high-level architecture and platform design into clear, implementable network requirements, ensuring that cloud networking solutions are consistent, secure, and aligned with enterprise standards. You will work closely with the Cloud Platform Architect, Network Architect, and Cloud Engineering teams to guide implementation decisions and resolve complex networking challenges.
This is not a pure build role. Instead, you will be a highly consulted technical expert responsible for shaping how cloud network designs are applied in practice and ensuring that designs are operationally sound.
What you will be doing
  • Translate infrastructure and platform architecture into detailed cloud network implementation requirements (VNet/VPC design, subnetting, routing, segmentation, and traffic flow).

  • Act as a technical bridge between Architecture and Cloud Engineering teams to ensure alignment between design intent and implementation.

  • Provide guidance (and implementation, as appropriate) on private connectivity patterns including Private Endpoints, Private Link, and VPC endpoints.

  • Support hybrid connectivity design between cloud and on-prem environments, including routing and DNS considerations.

  • Lead troubleshooting of complex cloud network issues such as connectivity failures, DNS resolution, latency, and asymmetric routing.

  • Partner with Service Operations to perform root cause analysis and improve network reliability.

  • Contribute to and ensure consistency with cloud networking standards, patterns, and implementation guidelines.

  • Identify opportunities to improve consistency, performance, and supportability of cloud networking solutions.

  • Aiding developer and business stakeholders in the efficient, cost-effective, and secure use of in-scope tools and solutions

  • Supporting existing Infrastructure Automation tools and continuously refining our ecosystem to meet emergent customer needs

What you bring
  • A positive, customer-first attitude

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.

  • 5-8+ years of experience in network engineering and/or cloud networking roles.

  • Strong experience with cloud networking (Azure VNets, AWS VPCs), routing, BGP, segmentation, DNS, and TCP/IP.

  • Experience with hybrid cloud connectivity and private connectivity patterns (Private Link, Private Endpoints, VPC endpoints).

  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience across cloud and on-prem network environments.

  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code concepts (e.g., Terraform) to guide implementations.

  • Strong collaboration skills across architecture, engineering, and operations teams.

  • Ability to translate high-level designs into actionable technical guidance.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
