Job description

Overview

The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the operational support, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of Northwell Health's enterprise network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, internet connectivity, and Google Cloud networking environments.

This is a senior-level, hands-on engineering role requiring strong technical troubleshooting skills, operational ownership, and the ability to independently manage complex network incidents in a large, highly available healthcare environment. The successful candidate must be capable of troubleshooting across technologies, performing root-cause analysis, executing production changes, and driving issues through resolution with minimal supervision.

On-Call and Location Requirements

  • Must be willing and able to participate in a rotating on-call schedule that includes nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency response for critical network incidents.
  • Ability to support operational and onsite requirements as needed in Long Island/Suffolk County

Required Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking and the OSI model, with the ability to apply these concepts during real-world troubleshooting.
  • Advanced experience supporting enterprise routing and switching environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of routing protocols, including BGP and EIGRP.
  • Experience troubleshooting VLANs, trunks, spanning tree, routing, ACLs, NAT, DNS, DHCP, MTU, latency, packet loss, and network performance issues.
  • Experience with enterprise WAN technologies and geographically distributed network environments.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise wireless networking and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with firewalls, remote-access VPN technologies, and network-security fundamentals.
  • Experience using packet captures, network monitoring tools, logs, CLI diagnostics, and performance data to isolate complex issues.
  • Knowledge of cloud networking, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including VPCs, routing, connectivity, and hybrid-cloud architectures.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot complex production issues across multiple network domains and technologies.

Preferred Certifications

  • Cisco CCNP
  • Palo Alto Networks certifications
  • Google Cloud certifications
  • Other relevant enterprise networking, security, wireless, or cloud certifications
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience, preferred

Job Description

Ensures integrity of the network devices, communication systems software, hardware. Identifies, programs and maintains all network and communication applications. Assists and participates in the review and design of new or existing network infrastructure and systems. Develops and conducts in-service training on new applications.

Job Responsibility

1.Responsible for engineering and integrity of the networking and communication system’s software, hardware, and configurations.
2.Responsible for identifying, engineering/designing and programming of networking infrastructure and communication applications.
3.Develops knowledge base documents and conducts knowledge transfer among engineering team.
4.Assists in the review and evaluation of project requests and recommends appropriate action.
5.Administers installation and repair services.
6.Responsible for first level problem resolution for all health system locations.
7.Gives guidance and direction to engineering team and outside service technicians.
8.Operates under limited guidance and work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
