Reporting directly to the Network Administrator Lead, the  Network Administrator I is responsible for managing technology infrastructure to include routers, switches, cabling, network hardware, software, and related peripherals to support organizational objectives of secure, efficient and effective operations. Responsible for monitoring network utilization and security systems as well as working with IT team on servers, patching, applications, core systems and special projects as needed.

Duties and responsibilities

Technical Oversight & Review

  • Maintain and support the Credit Union's local and wide area network needs.
  • With guidance, document changes while maintaining current network topology according to Sandia Area’s standards and assumes responsibility for the effective performance of network administration duties.
  • Assist in creating efficient methods for managing network systems to minimize downtime and increase security on the network.
  • Review systems technical controls, provide input to improve network security and act on the fulfillment of security objectives. Ensure the integrity and availability of network systems.
  • Review and assess network and system security architecture to ensure a practical and secure design is implemented.
  • Responsible for accurate reporting of critical monitoring services.
  • Create, update, and change Information Technology operational information, system utilization logs, and other vital recordkeeping as directed.
  • Configure software for network installation and company-wide implementation.
  • Communicate problems and unusual situations to the Network Administration Lead in a timely fashion.

Vendor Support

  • Work with contracted vendors to identify issues and provide documentation for timely completion of network projects.
  • Report on vendor issues to network administration lead as appropriate
  • Maintain complete and accurate inventory of network assets, support agreements, and warranties.

Department Operational Support

  • Research, diagnoses, and resolves problems within the network infrastructure and maintain related activity logs.
  • Research options and assist in creating efficient methods for managing network systems to minimize downtime and increase security on the network.
  • Stay abreast of hardware and software developments and work with the lead network administrator to find new technologies and processes that enhance the efficiency and security of the network infrastructure.
  • Work with the IT team as needed on projects such as servers, applications, core systems, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Expertise in analysis of complex network issues with a requisite understanding of financial institution operations.
  • Ability to maintain organizational & documentation required to maintain inventory systems, day-to-day processes, and procedural run-logs.
  • Basic working knowledge of Firewall, Intrusion Detection, Web Filter, and email filter technologies.
  • Fundamental understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, VPN, and SD-WAN Technologies.
  • Ability to communicate highly technical information into user-friendly terms to both users, managers, and other support staff.
  • Must be willing and able to drive between worksites and must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive in seeking professional growth, embracing both formal and informal development opportunities, and demonstrating adaptability to new responsibilities.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Associate's degree in related field. 

Other equivalent certification may be considered.

  • One (1) year of applicable experience required.
  • CompTIA Network+ certification required.
  • Fortinet and Extreme Networks experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Windows and Linux.
  • CCNA/CCNP or equivalent certification is preferred and may be substituted for education.
  • General knowledge of credit unions or financial institutions is a plus.
