Senior Network Infrastructure Operations Lead

Senior Network Infrastructure Operations Lead Position Summary

Buchanan Technologies is seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Infrastructure Operations Lead. This resource will serve as the technical lead for a global enterprise network environment, combining handsโ€‘on engineering, architecture, operational leadership, and team mentorship responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise across enterprise networking technologies, strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, and experience leading network modernization, standardization, and operational improvement initiatives. This role will be critical in supporting the stability, security, scalability, and performance of a geographically distributed network environment.

This is a highly handsโ€‘on role requiring both strategic thinking and operational execution.

Key Responsibilities Network Engineering & Architecture
  • Design, implement, maintain, and optimize enterprise network infrastructure across a global multiโ€‘office environment.
  • Lead network architecture initiatives, technology evaluations, and standardization efforts.
  • Design and support secure connectivity solutions, including SDโ€‘WAN, VPN, cloud networking, and siteโ€‘toโ€‘site connectivity.
  • Develop scalable network strategies supporting Microsoft Azure and cloudโ€‘hosted enterprise services.
  • Drive continuous improvement of network reliability, resiliency, and security posture.
Operational Support & Incident Response
  • Maintain operational ownership of enterprise network infrastructure, including switches, firewalls, wireless networks, and core routing.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex network and connectivity issues.
  • Respond quickly and effectively during critical outages or serviceโ€‘impacting incidents.
  • Serve as an escalation point for major incidents and highโ€‘priority troubleshooting efforts.
  • Participate in occasional afterโ€‘hours escalation support as required.
  • Lead and mentor a small offshore team of juniorโ€‘toโ€‘midโ€‘level network engineers.
  • Coordinate operational activities to support effective global coverage outside of U.S. business hours.
  • Establish operational procedures, standards, and documentation practices.
  • Foster accountability, technical growth, and strong customer service within the network engineering function.
  • Collaborate with technical peers to support crossโ€‘functional infrastructure, security, and cloud initiatives.
Security & Infrastructure Integration
  • Manage firewall architecture, policy design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • Support enterprise authentication and access control technologies, including TACACS, RADIUS, and Cisco ISE.
  • Partner with infrastructure, security, cloud, and application teams to support enterprise initiatives.
  • Ensure network configurations align with security and compliance standards.
Documentation & Process Improvement
  • Create and maintain highโ€‘quality network diagrams, operational documentation, standards, and procedures.
  • Develop repeatable deployment and troubleshooting processes.
  • Identify automation opportunities and operational efficiencies where appropriate.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 8+ years of progressive enterprise network engineering experience.
  • Proven experience serving as a senior or lead network engineer in a global or multiโ€‘site organization.
  • Strong handsโ€‘on experience with:
    • Cisco networking technologies
    • Cisco ISE or comparable network access control platforms
    • Meraki infrastructure
    • Fortinet firewalls and security solutions
    • Arista switches and wireless access points
  • Deep understanding of:
    • BGP
    • OSPF
    • DHCP
    • DNS
    • TACACS
    • RADIUS
    • VPN technologies
    • SDโ€‘WAN
    • Enterprise Wiโ€‘Fi design and troubleshooting
    • Packet capture and inspection tools
  • Experience supporting cloud networking environments, especially Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience supporting hybrid cloud connectivity and enterprise WAN architectures.
  • Strong troubleshooting methodology and ability to think critically under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and nonโ€‘technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent documentation and organizational skills.
  • Experience leading technical projects and influencing network direction.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with automation and scripting tools such as Terraform, Python, or Ansible.
  • Experience working in financial services, private equity, or similarly regulated environments.
  • Prior experience leading distributed or offshore technical teams.
Education
  • Remote role.
  • Candidates must be available during standard U.S. business hours.
  • Occasional afterโ€‘hours support may be required for major incidents or escalations.
  • Candidates in the Dallasโ€‘Fort Worth area are preferred.
  • Limited domestic travel may be required, expected to be less than 10%.
