Manager, Network Engineering
Location: Warrenville, Arlington Heights, or Skokie, IL (Hybrid)
Role Overview
As the Manager of Network Engineering, you will provide strategic leadership for network solutions, overseeing their full lifecycle from planning to deployment and maintenance. This role involves leading a team of approximately 12-14 direct reports, fostering a high-performance culture, and unifying teams from previously separate systems. You will serve as a strategic thinker who is ready to move beyond hands-on keyboard tasks to focus on mentoring staff, designing team processes, and ensuring operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic direction for the enterprise network, establishing vision and roadmaps for routing, switching, WiFi, firewalls, and network security.
  • Lead and develop a team of engineers, fostering a culture of kindness, teamwork, excellence, and ownership.
  • Drive end-to-end activities for the solutions portfolio, including planning, implementation, testing, and support.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with business leaders and vendors to align technology solutions with organizational goals.
  • Oversee resource planning, particularly for a team heavily utilized during major incidents, and standardize processes like on-call response protocols.
  • Contribute to capital and operating budgets, policy development, and talent management.
  • Ensure the stability, reliability, security, and capacity of enterprise network services.

Required Qualifications
Experience:
  • Five or more years of experience managing processes, applications, or systems, preferably within an integrated healthcare delivery system.
  • Two or more years of leadership experience, with demonstrated success in bringing teams together and directing high-performing talent.
  • Must have experience in an enterprise-level environment.
  • Proven background in a hands-on technical role with a readiness to transition to a strategic, non-hands-on-keyboard leadership position.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

Technical Skills:
  • Experience with LAN, WAN, and wireless technologies.
  • A higher-level technical understanding sufficient to manage vendor relationships effectively.
  • Knowledge of network engineering fundamentals, including switching, firewalls, and load balancers.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Cisco technologies is preferred.
  • Familiarity with network engineering tools such as SD-WAN, colo, and Infoblox.
  • Exposure to network security concepts, including firewalls and ISE.
