Job description

Role Overview: 
Build and Support Critical Network Infrastructure

Windwave is seeking a Network Engineer II (Transport) to support and maintain our carrier-grade transport network. This role serves as the operational bridge between field technicians and senior engineering, providing advanced troubleshooting, service provisioning, network maintenance, and operational support across our growing fiber and transport infrastructure.

You'll work with enterprise-class networking technologies while helping ensure the reliability of the systems that keep our customers connected. If you're passionate about solving complex technical problems and enjoy working in an ISP environment, we'd like to hear from you.
 
What You’ll Do: 
  • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot Windwave's transport network to ensure reliable service delivery.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, routing, switching, and transport network issues.
  • Respond to service outages and coordinate rapid restoration efforts.
  • Provide advanced remote support to field technicians during installations, maintenance, and emergency repairs.
  • Configure, provision, and test transport services and network equipment.
  • Perform software updates, firmware upgrades, and approved configuration changes.
  • Maintain accurate network documentation, diagrams, and operational records.
  • Collaborate with Network Operations and Engineering to improve network reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Assist with root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation supporting critical network operations.

What You'll Bring: 
  • Three or more years of experience supporting ISP, carrier, telecommunications, or enterprise networks.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • IP Networking.
    • Routing & Switching.
    • Ethernet Services.
    • Fiber Transport Networks.
  • Experience troubleshooting carrier-grade networking equipment.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • MPLS.
    • EVPN.
    • VLANs.
    • QinQ.
    • Optical Transport Technologies.
  • Experience using network monitoring platforms and ticketing systems.
  • Ability to read network diagrams and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Preferred: 
  • Experience with Ciena transport platforms.
  • Experience with Juniper networking equipment.
  • Linux and/or FreeBSD administration experience.
  • Experience with Python, Bash, or other automation scripting.
  • CCNA certification or equivalent networking knowledge.
  • CCNP certification (or actively pursuing certification).
  • Previous experience working in a Network Operations Center (NOC).

Work Environment: 
This position is primarily office-based with occasional visits to network facilities, customer sites, and field locations. Participation in an on-call rotation is required and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays to support critical network operations.
