Smithville Communications is seeking a Business Development Representative to expand our business customer base across Southern Indiana through prospecting, networking, strategic partnerships, and community engagement. For a telecom company like Smithville, an ideal business development role often balances three areas:

  1. Vertical specialization (state, local, education (SLED), healthcare, manufacturing)
  2. Strategic partnerships (managed services providers, developers, consultants)
  3. Market expansion (new logos, multi-dwelling units, wholesale, and enterprise growth)
If you thrive in a consultative sales environment and enjoy turning opportunities into long-term customer relationships, we'd like to hear from you.

Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Direct applicants only. We are not seeking 3rd party recruitment services for this role.

In this role, you will focus on identifying and connecting with potential business clients, qualifying opportunities, and building the kind of trusted relationships that turn prospects into long-term technology partners.
You will be expected to make meaningful, high-impact decisions on a daily basis, from prioritizing outreach to managing pipeline activity to determining the right approach for each prospect. You will also collaborate closely with internal teams, technology vendors, and managed services provider partners to drive results.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Lead Generation and Qualification
  • Identify and qualify new business opportunities through prospecting, networking, referrals, and strategic outreach.
  • Manage a high-value sales pipeline and lead discovery conversations to uncover customer needs and decision-makers.
  • Advance qualified leads into sales opportunities, partnering with internal teams to develop solutions and drive closed business.
Relationship Development and Management
  • Build strategic partnerships with managed services providers and technology vendors to support joint sales efforts, business development, and revenue growth.
  • Represent Smithville in assigned markets through engagement with business leaders, community organizations, and economic development groups.
  • Expand market presence and generate new opportunities through industry events, professional networking, and community involvement.
Pipeline Management
  • Track and manage all sales activity in the CRM to keep the pipeline accurate and moving
  • Maximize the use of available business systems and tools
  • Meet and exceed monthly activity targets and participate in weekly coaching sessions to support continuous revenue growth
Product Expertise
  • Stay current on Smithville's full range of products and services (Fiber Internet, Cloud Voice and Security Services), including upcoming offerings
  • Match customer needs to the right Smithville solutions and present them with confidence
WHAT YOU BRING
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in telecommunications, technology sales, SaaS or managed services
  • Proven success meeting or exceeding sales goals
  • Consultative selling and solution-based sales expertise
  • Positive, resilient attitude with the ability to stay focused through challenges
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record
Preferred:
  • Degree in business or related field
  • Experience with B2B outside sales
  • CRM and sales pipeline management experience
WORK ENVIRONMENT
A standard 40-hour work week is the norm, though some evenings or weekends may be needed to attend community events, meet deadlines, or respond to time-sensitive situations.
WHAT WE OFFER
  • Base salary plus uncapped commission opportunity
  • FREE Degree and certificate programs for eligible employees
  • FREE Dental, Term Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability Insurance
  • Low-cost Medical, Prescription, and Vision plans
  • 401(k) with a company match

  • Employee discounts on Smithville services
  • Generous PTO and paid holidays
  • Ongoing training and development
