Network Engineer Overview:
The Network Engineer is responsible for design, implementation, support, monitoring, security, and ongoing optimization of Canopy Children's Solutions network infrastructure to support its operational needs. This role manages network hardware and services, including routers, switches, wireless systems, firewalls, virtual environments, domain services, backup solutions, and disaster recovery systems. The Network Engineer monitors network performance, troubleshoots complex technical issues, and ensures the reliability, availability, and security of all network resources across multiple locations. The Network Engineer develops and implements plans to support current and future technology needs, while maintaining compliance with organizational and security standards. This role assists in the development and enforcement of information security policies, procedures, and best practices, helping to protect organizational data and systems. Additionally, the Network Engineer provides technical recommendations, maintains system documentation, and collaborates with the Director of IT Operations to improve infrastructure performance, strengthen cybersecurity, and support organizational goals through innovative and reliable technology solutions.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, and support the Organization's local area network, wide area network, and Internet system.
  • Configures and implements network hardware, software and network communication gateways to other computing environments.
  • Investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex network, connectivity, and infrastructure issues in a timely manner.
  • Implements and supports network security controls in alignment with organizational policies and industry standards.
  • Assists in maintaining secure access controls, network segmentation, and data protection measures.
  • Maintain Technical Security: Set the access and authorization controls for everyday operations as well as emergencyprocedures for data.
  • Implements and maintains transmission security controls, including access control mechanisms, audit trails, event reporting, encryption standards, and data integrity protections.
  • Monitors network performance and availability, proactively identifying and addressing issues.
  • Responds to network incidents and service disruptions, documenting root cause and resolution.
  • Implements network changes in accordance with established change management processes.
  • Works with IT leadership and vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to support network solutions and services.
  • Monitors and supports effectiveness of security solutions, including firewalls, anti-virus solutions, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Maintains up-to-date network diagrams, configurations, and operational documentation.
  • Supports audit and compliance efforts by maintaining documentation and providing requested system information.
  • Provides technical assistance to network operations and staff.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
  • Create and maintain disaster recovery and emergency operation procedures and risk tolerances for the network.
  • Responsible for demonstrating sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural/socioeconomic differences in the organization/program service population.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and a minimum of five (5) years of directly related experience required.
  • Must have a working knowledge of LANs, WANs, Microsoft Server Systems, SQL, Cisco networking and VPNs.
  • Network security experience. CCNA/ Network+/Security+ (preferred).
