Controls Engineer - Traveling

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Controls Engineer with expertise in PLC commissioning and troubleshooting for various types of material handling systems. The ideal candidate will have the ability to independently contribute to a team of controls engineers and cross-discipline contributors, ensuring the successful completion of project milestones on time and within budget. A multi-disciplined understanding of the material handling industry is essential for solving complex and abstract problems.

Responsibilities

  • Apply customer requirements and specifications to independently write, debug, and test PLC code.
  • Utilize engineering drawings and established AOI libraries and PLC coding standards to write, debug, and test PLC code.
  • Document progress of assigned tasks and write detailed design documents.
  • Write test plans at various levels (Integrated System, Area, Zone, Section).
  • Monitor internal quality of controls deliverables to ensure high first-pass yield.
  • Perform quality checks and provide documentation of completion and status.
  • Prepare and review daily and weekly progress reports.
  • Interface and coordinate with internal or external stakeholders to solve issues and provide documentation of resolution.
  • Contribute independently to the execution of complex, large, and unique projects.
  • Ensure the quality and timeliness of assigned Controls Project Engineering deliverables.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering/Technology discipline.
  • Expert level in ladder logic, Allen-Bradley Systems; Studio 5000.
  • Expert understanding of installation, programming, and providing technical support for Controls hardware and software.
  • Strong understanding of Electrical controls hardware design, communication networks, and power distribution (480 VAC / 120VAC / 24VDC).
  • Experience in the implementation of material handling systems.
  • Logical mindset with skills in understanding and designing Engineering Science: Logic & Programming.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and research capabilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in both team and autonomous situations.
  • Willingness to accept responsibility for project completion.
  • Proficiency in prioritizing work/activities.
  • Solid understanding of networking principles and computer hardware setup.
  • Knowledge of project scheduling and system safety standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Expert level in ladder logic, Siemens Systems; TIA-Portal.
  • Ability to read and write structured text.
  • Programming capabilities in SQL, Visual Basic, C, C++, C#, or equivalent.
  • Understanding of Mechanical design related to the material handling industry.

Work Environment

The position involves commissioning equipment at various sites, including Amazon Distribution centers across the US. The typical schedule is 10 days onsite followed by 4 days at home. All travel expenses are covered and reimbursed, with Meals and Incidental Expenses (M&IE) per diem provided at maximum GSA rates based on the location. The work environment includes both office and factory/construction settings. The role requires physical capability for 10 hours of standing, sitting, walking, and climbing stairs. Sponsorship will be considered for qualified candidates.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $59.00/hr.
