Job description

We are seeking a PLC Technician to be responsible for the programming, troubleshooting, modification, and maintenance of programmable logic controller (PLC) systems, human machine interfaces (HMIs), and related automated control systems throughout our injection molding, blow molding, paint, and assembly operations. This role requires strong working knowledge of Boolean logic as applied to industrial control systems, including the ability to read, interpret, write, and debug Boolean expressions, ladder logic, and structured text programs that govern machine sequencing, interlocks, safety circuits, and I/O operations. The PLC Technician will work closely with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to minimize downtime, optimize equipment performance, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop, write, modify, & debug PLC programs utilizing Boolean logic, ladder logic, structured text, & function block diagrams to control injection molding machines, blow molding equipment, robotic systems, conveyors, & auxiliary automation.
  • Apply Boolean algebra principles to design & troubleshoot control sequences, interlocks, timers, counters, and conditional machine logic.
  • Create & modify HMI screens & control interfaces to provide real-time machine status.
  • Implement & maintain safety circuits & machine interlocks for safe machine operation.
  • Diagnose & resolve complex equipment failures by analyzing PLC I/O, Boolean logic sequences, & control programs to identify root causes.
  • Read & interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic diagrams, blueprints, & PLC documentation to support troubleshooting and repair activities.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on PLC-controlled systems, automation cells, and related electrical and control components.
  • Calibrate & test sensors, proximity switches, motor controllers, variable frequency drives (VFDs), relays, and other control components.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve machine uptime, cycle time efficiency, scrap reduction, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, production teams and others to resolve equipment & process issues.
  • Assist with the installation, commissioning, & integration of new equipment, automation upgrades, & line modifications.
  • Provide technical support & training to maintenance technicians on basic PLC troubleshooting & safe operation of automated systems.
  • Document all PLC program modifications, maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage in internal tracking systems.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years experience programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining PLC systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Boolean logic, including the ability to construct, evaluate, and debug expressions, truth tables, and logic gate configurations as applied to industrial control systems.
  • Experience reading, writing, and modifying ladder logic programs.
  • Experience with at least 1 PLC platform: Allen-Bradley, Rockwell, Siemens, Omron etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic diagrams, mechanical drawings, and blueprints.
  • Experience working with industrial electrical systems (110V, 220V, 480V).
  • Strong understanding of industrial automation components, including sensors, proximity switches, motor controllers, VFDs, relays, contactors, and safety circuits.
  • Experience with HMI configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work independently & collaboratively in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a logical approach to troubleshooting.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred
  • Technical certification or Associate degree in Industrial Automation, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • Experience in plastic injection molding or blow molding manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with robotic integration and programming (Fanuc, Wittmann, Sepro, Yushin, or similar).
  • Knowledge of SCADA/MES systems & industrial networking protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus).
  • Experience supporting new equipment commissioning and production launch activities.
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic system troubleshooting experience.
  • Expereince with Sysmac Studio
