In this on-site role, you'll architect, configure, and support our broadband transport network across core, aggregation, and access layers. You'll also troubleshoot issues, develop resilient network designs, and ensure seamless service through strategic planning and collaboration.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
As a Network Engineer, you'll play a key role in the health, reliability, and growth of our infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Network Troubleshooting (25%) - Resolve issues across Layer 2, Layer 3, MPLS, SIP, OTN, BGP, ERPS, and other transport protocols using thought-driven analysis and hands-on expertise.
  • Network Design & Architecture (20%) - Design and plan infrastructure for residential, commercial, and internal systems with a focus on redundancy, survivability, and scalability.
  • Equipment & Services Configuration (15%) - Configure and optimize equipment from Cisco, Ciena, Calix, and Metaswitch to support new builds, upgrades, and service deployments.
  • Technology R&D (10%) - Stay ahead of the curve by evaluating new hardware, software, and network technologies to improve service delivery and reliability.
  • Internal & Customer Communication (10%) - Collaborate with internal teams and external customers to coordinate installations, maintenance, and service turn-ups with minimal disruption.
  • Implementation & Maintenance (12%) - Deploy, test, and maintain network infrastructure across diverse environments, ensuring peak performance and long-term stability.
  • Training & Documentation (5%) - Participate in internal training sessions and contribute to documentation, including Methods of Procedure (MOPs) and network standards.
  • Costing & Planning (3%) - Support Sales and Project Management by providing accurate costing for commercial services using Salesforce and other tools.
WHAT YOU NEED
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional overnights and weekends for maintenance or outages. This position has an "on-call" requirement for one week at a time, once approximately every six weeks.
  • Technical degree in Telecommunications, Information Systems, or equivalent experience (at least 2 years in a similar role)
  • Industry certifications (preferred): Calix, Cisco, Ciena, Metaswitch, MEF.
  • Strong knowledge of IP networking, routing & switching, OTN, GPON, VOIP, and service troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools (e.g., EXFO/JDSU testers, fiber cleaning kits, light meters).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
  • Must have sufficient night vision to perform driving duties in low-light or nighttime conditions safely.
  • Frequently: Sitting, walking, reaching, lifting up to 30 lbs, and using vision tools.
  • Occasionally: Climbing, kneeling, lifting 31-45+ lbs, and working around loud or laser-based equipment.
  • Work occurs indoors (80%), outdoors (10%), and in vehicles or temporary shelters (10%), sometimes in tight spaces or elevated areas.
