Job Summary:
The Assistant Director is a strong strategic contributor who manages the vision and execution of communication campaigns across various media channels while also organizing and coordinating events to achieve maximum impact and engagement with the university community and employers. The Assistant Director develops and maintains strategic partnerships with employers and alumni, develops and executes all Center-related events, and is responsible for the Center's media relations.
Essential Functions (Responsibilities):
Develops and oversees all marketing and communication efforts related to events, programming, and services.
Serves as the Center's liaison with the Marketing and Communications Department, ensuring all communication adheres to the University's branding requirements and policies.
Ensures brand consistency through graphic design, promotional item requests/orders, and the creation of print, web, audio, photographic, and video content.
Creates marketing for cross-departmental events as needed and ensures all stakeholders have promotional materials in a timely manner.
Acts as the primary content creator for the Center, designing marketing copy, graphics, videos, and other materials for distribution via email, social media, and physical marketing assets such as posters and banners.
Develops and implements comprehensive media strategies to promote Center awareness both on and off campus.
In conjunction with the Associate Director and Assistant Director of Analytics and Programming, oversees all Center and partnered events, including staff and vendor management, crowd control, and crisis management.
Assists in conceptualizing and planning an annual calendar of events to maximize impact and align with the Center's goals of supporting students, employers, and alumni.
Coordinates with external vendors for various events, ensuring that both internal and external partners meet the Center's needs and specifications.
Manage the selection of external vendors, negotiate contracts to optimize budget, and manage relationships with vendors.
Manages all event scheduling, including room and vendor booking, internal and external calendar management, communicating with university departments on collaborative events, and communicating with employer and community partners on event specifications.
Serves as the Center's event planning liaison with Student Success and other campus offices, including academic colleges, for collaborative events such as college specific career fairs/days.
Develops and maintains relationships with employers, including initial outreach and ongoing connections to promote opportunities for student internships, job placements, and networking.
Develops digital sponsorship opportunities for the Center by working with employers and other community stakeholders.
Coordinates within the Center to promote employer engagement related to experiential learning, internship, and shadowing opportunities for students.
Fosters and conducts networking opportunities for students with employers, local organizations, and alumni.
Develops programs to facilitate direct engagement between employers and students, such as site visits ("career caravans") and experiential learning opportunities ("intern for a day").
Supervises, trains, and oversees graduate assistants within the center.
Supervises and oversees the student ambassador program.
Collaborates in tracking and reporting key performance indicators (e.g., media impressions, social media engagement, attendance, and attendee/sponsor satisfaction) for media campaigns and events.
Provides budget support for the department, including running budget reports and ensuring funding is available prior to scheduling large-scale events and marketing campaigns.
Initiates and manages all departmental purchase orders for events and marketing purposes.
Manages the Career Closet, including inventory management, donation management, and soliciting donations from both internal and external partners
Participates in relevant Career Center, Success Center, and other University events and programs.
- Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work in a team environment, problem solve, collaborate, and provide superior customer service.
Strong skills in written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and computer skills.
Intermediate or greater knowledge of Canva.
Experience working with various social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
High attention to detail, demonstrated practice of establishing effective priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite.
Equivalent Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- 1 - 3 years of event planning or related experience.
- 1 - 3 years of marketing, graphic design, or related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Experience with Handshake.
- 3 - 5 years of marketing, graphic design, or related experience.
- 3 - 5 years of event planning or related experience.
