Job description

The Network Engineer I-OSC is primarily responsible for the support of internal and customer physical and virtual networking, and firewall management with a fundamental understanding of those specialties including any associated automation. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to successfully analyze and perform technical and process-based problem resolution with an emphasis on customer satisfaction. The candidate must be well versed in Network technologies and display a desire to continuously grow and improve both technical and soft skills.
This position is a part of the Operations Service Center, a 7 x 24 x 365 organization, which means the position requires shift work. This could be either Su-Th or Tu-Sa.
RESPONSIBILITIES, other duties may be assigned.
  • Be a part of a 24x7x365 Operations Service Center and be flexible in availability as needed
  • Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the assigned task(s), functional area(s) or project(s)
  • Manage your assigned tickets to ensure SLA compliance and customer satisfaction
  • Deliver customer-focused support through phone calls and ticket-based communications
  • Troubleshoot network port, HSRP and OSPF configuration issues
  • Conduct firewall rule changes and understand prefix and access lists
  • Read and comprehend traceroutes
  • Monitor alerts on alert board and conduct basic troubleshooting
  • Create A, C, and MX records using basic knowledge of DNS
  • Maintain/troubleshoot VPN's and ability to check Phase 1 and Phase 2
  • Triage and escalate tickets according to QTS policy
  • Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades
  • Administer all network equipment - switches, routers, firewalls, and associated software.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering or other related field or equivalent professional experience
  • Three or more years of progressive IT engineering experience
  • Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting Cisco routers and switches.
  • Familiarity with data center networking concepts, including VLANs, BGP, OSPF, and MPLS.
  • Knowledge of network monitoring tools and protocols (SNMP, NetFlow, etc.).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Solid understanding of security and network/distributed computing concepts
  • General experience with DDOS and traffic mitigation techniques
  • Working knowledge of networking technologies, concepts, and industry trends
  • Proficient in analysis, troubleshooting, problem solving, testing, re-creating, and resolution
  • Knowledge of current networking technologies, including Cisco, Juniper, or similar network hardware
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and analysis tools.
  • US Citizenship for this position is required by law due to federal customer contracts

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two or more years of experience with a service provider, preferably in a Data Center environment.
  • Experience working in a NOC environment
  • Related technology certifications (CCNA/CCNP, JNCIA, Network+, Security+, etc.)
  • Familiarity with NSX virtual networking
  • Familiar with Juniper network devices with ability to navigate Junos
  • Knowledge of ITIL
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow
  • Working knowledge of BGP and OSPF
  • Proficient with IP subnetting
