Job description

The Network Architect is responsible for providing technical expertise, using networking and operating systems aptitude, and acting as a project manager and escalation resource for all technical tasks.

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership, use networking and operating systems aptitude, and act as a project manager and escalation resource for all technical tasks.
  • Participate in kickoff meetings, build solution implementation roadmaps, and collaborate with Project Managers, Technical Leads, and Senior Engineers to ensure successful execution of project plans.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, coaching, career development and feedback for performance management to a highly technical team.
  • Responsible for the architecture, design, roadmap, standardization, availability, security, and the support of all network infrastructure devices and services. Design and build leading-edge proof-of-concept (POC).
  • Research and analyze current industry best practices, new technologies, and information security developments that aid in the detection and mitigation of critical deficiencies.
  • Oversee strategic planning, creation, execution, and completion of projects that align with the business needs, continuity, and growth. Stay informed on the latest industry trends and solution capabilities.
  • Ensure project milestones and goals are met promptly and effectively.
  • Act as the highest escalation point within the engineering department for chronic or unknown network issues.
  • Measure and report on network capacity, health, and performance.
  • Communicate progress updates timely and effectively to stakeholders and service partners as appropriate.
  • Direct leading edge practices, tools, and technology heavily leveraging automation.
  • Provide mentorship to the team as the lead technical resource.
  • Establish best practices and policies for network system design and implementation.
  • Support multiple ongoing projects while collaborating with team to prioritize key tasks and milestones.
  • Maintain and create documentation templates, which include Design and AS-Built documentation.
  • Build understanding of Cisco technologies, not just across networking, but collaboration, cloud, IoT and security.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technologies or related field, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training
  • At least 5 years’ experience with network and infrastructure technologies in service providers or large-scale networks
  • At least 5 years’ experience with internet routing protocols and concepts and network operating systems such as Cisco IOS and Junos
  • Detail-oriented, organized, inquisitive, and open to learning from all sources
  • Experience with all facets of the system implementation process of system design, configuration, customization, integration, testing and support
  • Experience designing, developing and deploying Triple Play Service Provider Architecture and/or large enterprise networks
  • Strong understanding of technical troubleshooting methodology
  • Excellent IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience in the application of IP protocols
  • Experience with major router platforms (specifically with Cisco ASR 9000 Series and Juniper MX/PTX Series)
  • CCIE Service Provider/Data Center/Enterprise preferred
  • Automation via Bash/shell scripting and Perl/Python programming
