FULTON COUNTY SUMMER INTERNSHIP DEPARTMENT OF DIVERSITY & CIVIL RIGHTS COMPLIANCE DIVISION: EQUAL OPPORTUNITY Overview The Equal Opportunity (EO) Intern supports the Office of Diversity & Civil Rights Compliance (DCRC) in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local equal employment opportunity laws, including Title VII, Title VI, the Georgia Fair Employment Practices Act, and related civil rights regulations. This internship provides hands-on experience in complaint intake, investigations support, data analysis, training development, and public-sector civil rights compliance. Minimum Qualifications Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program in Public Administration, Human Resources, Political Science, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Law/Pre-Law, Public Policy, Social Work, or a related field.

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information. Demonstrated interest in civil rights, equal opportunity, diversity, equity, inclusion, or public-sector HR.

Preferred Skills Coursework or experience related to EEO, civil rights, investigations, or compliance Experience with research, case documentation, policy review, or writing reports Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Demonstrated commitment to accessibility and inclusive practices Essential Duties and Responsibilities Duties will vary depending on placement within the department. Examples of responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assists with intake, tracking, and documentation of EEO and Title VI complaints or inquiries. Supports the investigative process by gathering information, preparing case files, and drafting correspondence.

Conducts research on civil rights laws, discrimination trends, and best practices in equal opportunity compliance. Helps analyze workforce and demographic data to identify patterns related to discrimination, equity, and inclusion. Assists with the development of training materials, presentations, and outreach content related to EEO, harassment prevention, and civil rights compliance.

Participates in policy reviews, compliance assessments, and internal audits. Prepares reports, summaries, and data dashboards for internal use. Provides administrative and project support to the EO Compliance team as assigned.

Work Environment Interns will work under close supervision and will support the goals and daily operations of their assigned division within the Department of Diversity & Civil Rights Compliance. Work may be performed in office settings. Some assignments may require outdoor work or lifting up to 25 lbs.

Reports to the EO Administrator. Program Requirements Academic Standing: Must be at least 17 years old, and must be a recent high school graduate (or G.E.D.), an undergraduate student, or enrolled in a technical college Availability: Commit to a maximum of 29 hours per week on-site for the duration of the 10-12-week program. Transportation: Must have reliable transportation to and from the Fulton County Government Center Must demonstrate interest in public service, government operations, or civic engagement
