License and Certification Qualifications:
  • Alcatel, Aruba, Cisco, CWNA, F5 or Juniper certifications Preferred

Education Qualifications:
  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree or equivalent Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field Preferred

Experience Qualifications:
  • 3 years of experience in implementing and maintaining complex large scale network systems and solutions or an equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential functions of the position Required

Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for assisting in the design, development, testing, implementation, and support of a highly available, fault tolerant communications network and supporting the strategic direction of the department by implementing capital projects that pertain to information management and technology initiatives.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of new network solutions and/or improvements to existing network infrastructure to include documentation, development, testing and deployment.
  • Study industry standards and current best practices to assist in the design of solutions that will support Gwinnett County Public Schools' strategic goals and priorities.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of Information Management and Technology capital projects in support of Gwinnett County Public Schools' strategic goals and priorities.
  • Provide high level network infrastructure support to customer service, local school technical staff and other Gwinnett County Public Schools' internal groups as directed.
    • Utilize approved tools and technical skills/knowledge to capture network traffic and perform detailed analysis and isolation of potential network and/or application issues.
  • Perform root cause analysis of network infrastructure related issues.
  • Provide direct support regarding network, hardware, and communications issues via telephone and on-site assistance to level 1 and 2 support staff.
    • Use professional communication when writing or speaking.
    • Present oneself in a professional manner.
  • Monitor and perform trend analysis and documentation of the health and operations of the network infrastructure as directed.
    • Monitor network health as directed.
    • Respond to monitoring system notifications to communicate issues and provide remediation steps as directed.
  • Supervise and instruct Network Infrastructure Services private contractors.
    • Provide mentoring and guidance to the private contractors in order to meet the goals of Information Management and Technology and the district.
    • Work professionally with team members on projects, tasks and other duties.
  • Communicate, analyze, troubleshoot, and repair network infrastructure failures and outages.
    • Restore service outages as quickly as possible and ensure students, teachers, and administrators have access to network resources when needed.
    • Initiate communications to inform the organization of any failures or outages that may occur.
  • Provide technical documentation.
    • Provide comprehensive and accurate documentation of all administered systems including configuration and integration information.
    • Provide effective procedural documentation for all administered systems.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, negotiate stairs, climb ladders, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear, manipulate tools and small items with hands, and lift and transport up to 50 pounds over short distances. The employee is required to operate a motor vehicle in performance of duties. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision. The employee may be subjected to a wide range of ambient temperature and humidity conditions while working on equipment under varying conditions including overhead work and work in confined spaces. Potential hazards of this position include working with electricity, working with heat and noise producing machinery and equipment, working on elevated equipment using ladders or other lifting devices, and use of chemicals and solvents.
