Duties & Responsibilities

Network Administrator is responsible for the following:

  • Provide Tier II network support and assist with escalated Tier III network issues for the service desk, client services teams, faculty, staff, students, classrooms, labs, and administrative areas.
  • Troubleshoot wired and wireless connectivity, authentication, VPN, VoIP, videoconferencing, classroom technology, and network-connected device issues; monitor performance; respond to outages or degraded service; and coordinate escalations with internal teams, vendors, and service providers as needed.
  • Support, monitor, secure, and assist with administration of campus data network infrastructure including switches, routers, wireless access points, firewalls, VPN services, DNS, DHCP, Internet connectivity, data center connections, and related network systems.
  • Assist with network design, configuration, monitoring, documentation, lifecycle replacement, firmware updates, capacity planning, and implementation of hardware and software solutions that support campus operations and various network protocols.
  • Support network and endpoint security operations in coordination with the CCCS Security team, including monitoring security tools, reviewing firewall and access-control configurations, assisting with vulnerability remediation, applying security patches and firmware updates, supporting compliance with applicable higher-education security requirements, and participating in incident response activities.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned, including support for network upgrades, wireless refreshes, VoIP and emergency communications systems, new construction or renovation projects, vendor evaluations, documentation updates, and other campus or systemwide technology initiatives.
Competencies/KSAs
  • Answer, document, update, and close network-related support requests and work orders in accordance with established service expectations.
  • Provide escalated technical support to the service desk, client services teams, faculty, staff, students, classrooms, labs, and administrative offices.
  • Install, configure, monitor, support, and troubleshoot hardware and software components related to campus voice, video, wired, wireless, and data networks.
  • Support campus-wide wireless services, including classroom, lab, administrative, public, and guest access areas; assist with authentication, coverage, performance, and device connectivity issues.
  • Support and troubleshoot network infrastructure services such as DNS, DHCP, VPN, Internet connectivity, routing, switching, firewall access, and data center network connections.
  • Assist with network monitoring, performance review, outage response, root-cause analysis, and service restoration for campus systems and network-connected devices.
  • Coordinate with vendors, Internet service providers, CCCS teams, and campus IT staff to resolve network issues, implement changes, and support shared technology services.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and incident response activities, including after-hours support when required for critical network or security events.
  • Support telephony, VoIP, emergency communications, E911/RedSky-related network coordination, videoconferencing, classroom technology, and other network-dependent campus services.
  • Assist with planning and implementing network upgrades, wireless refreshes, equipment lifecycle replacements, new construction, renovations, and other campus or systemwide technology projects.
  • Create and maintain network documentation, diagrams, configuration records, procedures, inventories, and knowledge base articles.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer networking, computer science, computer information systems;
  • OR a Bachelor of Science with a minimum of 18 combined credit hours in networking, computer science, computer information systems;
  • OR an Associate degree plus two years of enterprise networking experience;
  • OR a High School degree plus four years of enterprise networking experience.
  • Two years of IT support, desktop support, help desk, or related technical support experience.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting network and desktop operations, including installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and upgrading software and hardware.
  • Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge. Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three or more years of experience in a position with network support or network management duties.
  • Certification in areas related to network management and security, such as Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST), CCNA, Network+, Security+, GIAC, or equivalent certification.
  • Demonstrated experience with enterprise Windows system administration, including Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • Demonstrated experience with network security management architectures, protocols, and standards.
  • Demonstrated experience with Meraki or equivalent cloud-managed networking platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience in higher education in IT.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting Macs and iOS devices in an enterprise environment.

Additional Information/Benefits Work Life Balance

Pikes Peak State College offers a generous amount of annual leave and sick leave. Depending on your employment category and full or part-time status, Pikes Peak State College offers 15 hours a month of annual leave and 10 hours a month of sick leave accrual. There are paid holidays and alternate paid holidays which allow the college to be closed Christmas Day through New Year's Day. Eligibility is defined by your employment FTE status.

Pikes Peak State College participates in Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA) contribution rates. State employees are required to a mandatory contribution of a percentage of their salary to the plan, and the college contributes a percentage as well. While you are enrolled in PERA, you do not pay Social Security. In addition, there are supplemental retirement plans available through three other vendors.
