Job description

Wells Fargo is back in the office collaborating for fabulous outcomes!

This role is a hybrid position and in the office three days a week.

There are no visa sponsorships or visa transfers for this position.

Wells Fargo is looking for a Lead Network Engineer who thrives at the intersection of network architecture, automation, and cloud innovation. This is a high-impact opportunity to shape the future state of network engineering-driving modern design, automation strategies, and scalable infrastructure across a complex, enterprise environment.

This is not a traditional network engineering role-and not a pure DevOps position. We're looking for engineers who understand network protocols deeply and write code to automate infrastructure-people who are as comfortable with BGP and OSPF as they are with Python, APIs, and infrastructure as code.

This role is built for those who don't just configure networks but automate and evolve them at scale. If your experience is limited to networking without automation, or DevOps work without hands-on network protocol depth, this role will not be the right fit.

What You'll Do

Lead the design, implementation, and governance of large-scale, highly available network solutions across enterprise and cloud environments

Provide technical leadership in developing and executing network automation strategies (Python, APIs, infrastructure-as-code)

Establish and maintain engineering standards, patterns, and best practices for network design, deployment, and operations

Drive adoption of automation, software-defined networking, and scalable engineering practices

Oversee implementation of automated deployment pipelines and operational processes to improve consistency, reliability, and efficiency

Utilize advanced monitoring, telemetry, and analytics to support proactive operations and continuous improvement

Evaluate and incorporate emerging technologies, including AI-assisted engineering tools, into network engineering practices

Ensure solutions meet security, risk, and regulatory requirements, including performing risk assessments and design reviews

Identify and mitigate risks to production systems while maintaining service level agreements

Collaborate with senior leadership, cross-functional teams, and external partners to drive strategic initiatives

Mentor and develop engineering talent and influence adoption of modern engineering practices

Required Qualifications

5+ years of Network Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Advanced knowledge of network architecture, protocols, and large-scale system design

Strong experience with programming or scripting (Python preferred) for network automation

Extensive experience with network automation, APIs, and infrastructure-as-code practices

Experience designing and supporting cloud-based network solutions

Strong understanding of security, risk management, and compliance frameworks

Desired Qualifications

Experience defining and implementing enterprise-scale network automation strategies

Experience supporting large-scale or highly distributed network environments

Familiarity with observability, analytics, and performance engineering practices

Experience with AI-assisted operations, analytics tools, or automation platforms

Knowledge of container networking, virtualization, or modern application networking patterns

Industry certifications (e.g., CCIE, cloud professional certifications)

What to Expect

Hybrid work schedule aligned with one of our core locations

Flexible hours with occasional after-hours support for implementations

Ownership of engineering deliverables, roadmap execution, and performance outcomes

A role influencing Access and Data Center technologies and automation strategy

Opportunity to drive meaningful impact across a large, complex enterprise environment

Posting End Date:

9 Jul 2026
