Netsuite Developer information

What is a NetSuite developer?

A NetSuite Developer is a software professional who specializes in customizing and optimizing the NetSuite ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) platform for businesses. They design, develop, and implement solutions using SuiteScript, SuiteTalk, and other NetSuite tools to automate processes, integrate third-party systems, and enhance the platform’s functionality. NetSuite Developers work closely with stakeholders to understand business requirements, offer technical guidance, and ensure the system supports organizational goals. Their expertise helps companies maximize the value of their NetSuite investment.

What is a NetSuite developer?

A NetSuite developer creates and implements NetSuite software for business management solutions. As a NetSuite developer, your main duties involve reviewing your organization’s current systems, planning and executing new strategies, providing front-line support, communicating with vendors, and ensuring the success of all NetSuite applications. To pursue a career as a NetSuite developer, you usually need at least a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field. Additional qualifications include an understanding of standard business practices, experience using NetSuite tools and similar products, and strong problem-solving skills. Voluntary certification is also available to demonstrate your competence as a NetSuite professional.

What are some common challenges faced by NetSuite developers when customizing modules for different business needs?

Netsuite Developers often encounter challenges when tailoring modules to fit unique business processes, particularly in balancing customization with system performance and maintainability. They must ensure that scripts, workflows, and integrations align with best practices to avoid conflicts during system upgrades or changes. Collaboration with business analysts and end-users is essential to accurately translate requirements into scalable solutions, while also managing expectations about what is feasible within the Netsuite platform. Staying updated with new features and limitations is also crucial to deliver effective and future-proof customizations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a NetSuite developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a NetSuite Developer, you need strong programming skills in SuiteScript (JavaScript), a solid understanding of ERP concepts, and experience with NetSuite administration, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with NetSuite tools such as SuiteTalk (Web Services), SuiteFlow (workflow automation), SuiteBuilder, and relevant NetSuite certifications is highly beneficial. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills set standout developers apart when collaborating with cross-functional teams and translating business requirements into technical solutions. These skills ensure effective customization, integration, and optimization of NetSuite platforms to meet organizational needs.

What is the difference between Netsuite Developer vs Netsuite Administrator?

AspectNetsuite DeveloperNetsuite Administrator

Required SkillsSuiteScript, SuiteFlow, JavaScript, API integrationsSystem configuration, user management, reporting, troubleshooting

While Netsuite Developers focus on customizing and building solutions within Netsuite using scripting and development skills, Netsuite Administrators handle daily system management, user support, and configuration tasks. Both roles are essential for effective Netsuite implementation and operation, often working closely but with distinct responsibilities.

How much does a Netsuite developer make?

The average salary for a Netsuite developer typically ranges from $80,000 to $130,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and certifications. Senior developers with specialized skills or certifications can earn higher salaries, and the role often involves working with ERP systems and scripting languages like SuiteScript.

Is Netsuite Developer difficult to learn?

Netsuite Developer roles require understanding of NetSuite's SuiteScript, SuiteFlow, and ERP concepts, which can involve a learning curve for those new to ERP systems or scripting. Familiarity with JavaScript and database management can ease the learning process, and certifications can help validate skills. Overall, the difficulty depends on prior experience with similar technologies and programming skills.

Is Netsuite in demand?

Netsuite developers are in high demand due to the widespread adoption of Netsuite ERP solutions across various industries. Employers seek professionals skilled in SuiteScript, integrations, and customization to optimize business processes, often offering certifications and ongoing training opportunities.

NetSuite SCM Warehouse and Operations Analyst

Jetson Home

North Vancouver, BC

CA$110K - CA$125K/yr

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Life

Job description

The Opportunity

We run a physical-product business on NetSuite OneWorld across two subsidiaries and five jurisdictions. Inventory, purchasing, receiving, fulfillment, kitting, intercompany stock transfers, returns, and warranty all flow through NetSuite - and that flow needs a dedicated owner. Today, our SCM configuration is held together by stretched accountants, the operations team, and one-off scripts. We need someone who lives in the NetSuite SCM stack, owns it end-to-end, and partners with our warehouse and install teams to make the system match reality.

What You'll Do:
  • Own inventory data accuracy across all locations - North Van warehouse, regional inventory in each install market, installer vans/trucks, and RMAs in transit. Cycle counts, adjustments, valuation methods, and costing reviews.
  • Manage purchasing and receiving - POs, item receipts, three-way vendor bill match with AP, landed cost, and intercompany POs between our Canadian and US subsidiaries.
  • Own order management and fulfillment - sales orders for installs, kits/BOMs for standard system configurations, fulfillment from the right location, drop-ship for partner installers, and returns and warranty replacements.
  • Handle multi-location and multi-subsidiary stock movements - internal transfers, intercompany transfers (Canada US), customs/duty considerations, and in-transit accounting.
  • Govern the item master - SKU creation, units of measure, kit/assembly definitions, lead times, reorder points, and vendors per item.
  • Build reporting that ops actually uses - saved searches, dashboards, and SuiteAnalytics workbooks for inventory on hand by location, slow movers, install backlog vs. inventory coverage, vendor performance, and gross margin by SKU and region.
  • Partner with the NetSuite Developer and SCM team on customizations, custom records, and integrations (barcode scanning, installer mobile workflows, EDI/ASN as needed).
  • Partner with Finance on month-end inventory reconciliation, COGS accuracy, standard cost reviews, and shrink/adjustment reporting.
What You Bring:
  • 6-8+ years administering NetSuite SCM modules in production: Inventory Management, Advanced Locations, Purchasing, Advanced BOM, Order Management, and Item Receipts/Fulfillments - including multi-location and multi-subsidiary environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of kits/assemblies/BOMs, item costing methods (average cost), landed cost, and intercompany inventory flows.
  • Fluency building saved searches, workbooks, KPIs, and reminders without needing a developer.
  • Hands-on experience with physical-goods operations - warehouse, fulfillment, returns, warranty, and reconciling what's on the floor to what's in NetSuite.
  • Strong stakeholder skills: you can sit with a warehouse lead in the morning, a controller at lunch, and an engineer in the afternoon - and translate between all three.
  • Comfortable working with engineers who pull data via SuiteQL and REST APIs - you understand which records, joins, and custom fields they need.
  • Experience using AI tools and building automations in agentic workflows.
  • RFsmart WMS (Advanced or Standard) or any WMS integration experience.
  • Experience with Arena PLM.
  • NetSuite Manufacturing/Assembly module, Demand Planning, or Advanced Inventory Management.
  • Experience with EDI/ASN or barcoded receiving.
  • HVAC, construction, solar, or installation-services industry background.
  • Multi-currency, cross-border (Canada/US) operational experience.
