Job description

Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services with 278 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.
The Role
At Netflix, our mission is to Entertain the World. Over 270 million members around the globe enjoy our award-winning movies and TV shows, and much of our success still lies ahead.
Growth Engineering at Netflix is responsible for driving the continued growth of Netflix's subscriber base and increasing the value we derive from each member. Our work helps users to discover and sign up for Netflix, and maintain their Netflix service. We participate on cross-functional teams focused on acquisition, retention, plans and pricing, user identity, customer support, and more, and provide foundational systems powering all billing, payments processing, and the consumer web application platform at Netflix.
As an L7 Software Engineer reporting to the Senior Director of Growth Engineering, you will identify and solve highly complex problems that impact the entirety of our organization, understand systems and practices to inform and guide technical roadmaps for our teams, and provide technical leadership and mentorship to peers, stakeholders, and partners.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Define and drive the technical and architectural direction for the totality of the depth and breadth of the systems owned and operated by Growth Engineering, balancing business and customer benefit, cost, and resilience.
  • Provide both strategic and tactical oversight as we maintain, extend and modernize our current systems, and build new capabilities and platforms.
  • Partner with senior engineering leadership and our most experienced (L7) engineers, inside of and beyond Growth Engineering, to solve our hardest technical challenges and have a material impact on the business.
  • Assist in the career development of others, actively mentoring individuals and the community on advanced technical issues, while helping managers guide the career growth of their team members.

Required Experience & Other Qualifications:
  • 15+ years of professional software development experience as an individual contributor software engineer.
  • Deeply technical, with demonstrated success in setting the technical direction for engineering projects and making architectural decisions, and with an aptitude for influencing others to embrace and align around solutions.
  • Proven track record of designing, building, and supporting highly available and fault-tolerant systems in production.
  • Expert understanding of the development of the full-stack consumer software products at scale; you may focus on client, mid-tier, distributed systems, or otherwise, but must have some familiarity with and capability to flex between these disciplines, and most importantly, deeply understand their interplay.
  • Experience developing products that are A/B tested rigorously, and familiarity partnering with Data Science Engineering to help drive this experimentation efficiently and correctly.
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills that enable effective work with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, technical and non-technical alike. Includes the ability to work with senior leadership to develop a long-term technical strategy and map business goals to appropriate technology investments.

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $240,000 - $1,200,000.
Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
