WHAT YOU DO AT AMD CHANGES EVERYTHING

At AMD, our mission is to build great products that accelerate next-generation computing experiences—from AI and data centers, to PCs, gaming and embedded systems. Grounded in a culture of innovation and collaboration, we believe real progress comes from bold ideas, human ingenuity and a shared passion to create something extraordinary. When you join AMD, you’ll discover the real differentiator is our culture. We push the limits of innovation to solve the world’s most important challenges—striving for execution excellence, while being direct, humble, collaborative, and inclusive of diverse perspectives. Join us as we shape the future of AI and beyond.  Together, we advance your career.

THE ROLE:

We are looking for an experienced Storage Engineer to take full lifecycle ownership of critical storage clusters and appliances within our global data center infrastructure supporting AMD Instinct products. In this highly autonomous role, you will architect, procure, deploy, and operate a subset of our storage fleet, ensuring it meets the rigorous demands of large-scale AI and HPC environments.

As a leader within a growing SRE organization, you will drive storage strategies across teams, partnering closely with infrastructure architects, program managers, and technical users. To ensure seamless connectivity for high-performance workloads, this role is fully supported by a dedicated network engineering team with deep expertise in both data center and backend network fabrics. You will act as the operational authority for your storage domains, championing reliability, observability, and automation at every layer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Architect, deploy, and manage the complete lifecycle of Pure, NetApp, and Weka storage appliances across our global fleet
  • Drive incident response for storage-related events, establish and maintain SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs, and lead blameless post-mortems to implement permanent fixes
  • Engineer robust monitoring, logging, and alerting frameworks to ensure deep visibility into storage health, performance bottlenecks, and capacity forecasting
  • Partner closely with our dedicated network engineering team to ensure the successful integration of high-performance backend storage into the broader compute fabric
  • Communicate effectively to drive complex, multi-team initiatives, collaborating seamlessly with IT, InfoSec, hardware engineering, and end-users
  • Own the technical relationship with storage vendors, holding partners accountable to support SLAs, drive hardware roadmaps, manage firmware lifecycles, and lead high-level escalations
  • Eliminate manual toil by automating storage provisioning, configuration, and management tasks using Python, Ansible, and modern IaC practices

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Deep expertise in the architecture, deployment, and operation of Pure, NetApp, and Weka storage systems at scale
  • Strong SRE fundamentals, including incident management, observability tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana), and capacity planning
  • Advanced Linux systems engineering skills (RedHat, Ubuntu/Debian)
  • Understanding of high-performance storage protocols (NVMe-oF, iSCSI, Fibre Channel) with the ability to effectively collaborate with network engineers on backend fabrics like RoCE and InfiniBand
  • Familiarity with cluster backend storage integrating into HPC and AI training environments
  • Demonstrated experience with infrastructure automation, configuration management, and version control (Git)
  • Exceptional communication skills with a proven track record of influencing cross-functional technical teams and managing vendor relationships

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field

Location: Austin, TX; Santa Clara, CA; Seattle, WA; Toronto, ON;

This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
