Hico ISD is seeking dependable and enthusiastic substitute teachers to support our students and staff during the 20262027 school year. Substitute teachers play an important role in maintaining a positive learning environment while classroom teachers are away.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Teaching certification is preferred but not required.

  • Ability to follow lesson plans and classroom procedures.

  • Strong communication and classroom management skills.

  • Must pass all required background checks.


Pay Rates

  • Non-Certified Substitute: $12.50 per hour

  • Certified Substitute: $14.50 per hour


Long-Term Substitute Assignments

  • Substitutes who accept a long-term assignment of more than 10 consecutive workdays in the same position will receive an additional $2.00 per hour above their regular substitute pay rate for the duration of the qualifying assignment.


Responsibilities

  • Supervise students in a safe and positive learning environment.

  • Implement lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher.

  • Maintain classroom order and follow district policies and procedures.

  • Communicate with campus staff as needed.

  • Complete all assigned duties for the workday.
