Senior Vice President, Full-Stack Engineer - BNY

BNY

Manhattan, NY • On-site

Full-time

Re-posted 13 days ago

Job description

We are looking for a Senior Vice President, Full-Stack Engineering Lead in New York City to own the technical direction, delivery, and operational health of the Wove Trading & Rebalancing platform.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will write code, review architecture, lead incident response, and mentor engineers, while also driving the strategic roadmap with Product and Business stakeholders. You will be responsible for a platform that must be correct (it moves money), resilient (market hours are non-negotiable), and scalable (the client base is growing rapidly across multiple wealth management firms).

Architecture & System Design

  • Own the technical roadmap for the Trading & Rebalancing platform — from rebalancing compute engines and order generation pipelines to advisor-facing trading dashboards.
  • Design and evolve a multi-persona, multi-custodian entitlements architecture that supports advisors, home office users, portfolio managers, and asset managers — each with distinct data hierarchies, trading discretions, and custody constraints.
  • Drive the ‘One BFF‘ initiative: consolidating functional and data entitlements resolution into a unified NestJS GraphQL middleware layer using strategy patterns, guard chains, and per-persona data scoping.
  • Make architecture decisions across the full stack — Angular micro frontends, NestJS services, Spring Boot microservices, Kafka consumers/producers, Hazelcast distributed caching, and the DataLake API persistence layer.

Full-Stack Engineering

  • Build and maintain high-performance backend services in Java 21 / Spring Boot 3.x — order generation engines, rebalancing workflows, allocation services, validation engines, custodian rules engines, and trade automation pipelines.
  • Develop and extend Angular microfrontends using Module Federation — trading worksheets, order review screens, overview dashboards, trading rules configuration, tax harvesting, sleeve allocation, and custom rebalance UIs.
  • Design and operate a NestJS GraphQL BFF that resolves entitlements from EMS and Admin Center, orchestrates downstream service calls, and delivers persona-aware data to the frontend.
  • Implement secure service-to-service communication using mTLS certificates, OAuth2/JWT, and Kerberos authentication — all integrated with BNY‘s API Gateway and marketplace token exchange.

Trading & Rebalancing Domain

  • Deliver capabilities for portfolio rebalancing workflows, model management, proposed order generation, order review, and order submission — supporting equities, fixed income, and multi-asset sleeve strategies.
  • Build systems that handle multi-custodian complexity: Pershing, Schwab, and bank custody — including cross-hierarchy custodian bindings where different firms route through different custodians.
  • Implement per-client trading discretion configuration (e.g., one firm can trade true UMA while another is restricted to SMA/URPM only).
  • Ensure platform compliance with regulatory, audit, and risk requirements in a financial services environment.

AI-Enabled Engineering

  • Champion AI-assisted development across the SDLC — design, coding, testing, code review, documentation, and production support.
  • Drive engineering productivity through AI-powered tools for automated test generation, release impact analysis, and incident root cause identification.
  • Lead adoption of agentic AI workflows that integrate with the team‘s existing CI/CD, SonarQube quality gates, and GitLab pipelines.

Operational Excellence

  • Own production readiness across the service catalog — availability, resiliency, observability (Splunk, Dynatrace), and platform health.
  • Lead major incident resolution and root cause analysis. Market-hours downtime is not acceptable.
  • Reduce operational burden through automation, intelligent monitoring, and self-healing patterns.
  • Drive continuous improvement in deployment frequency, change failure rate, and mean time to recovery.

People Leadership

  • Lead and mentor engineers across frontend, backend, BFF, and platform disciplines.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, engineering excellence, and continuous learning.
  • Support hiring, talent development, and organizational growth.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with significant time designing and delivering distributed systems in financial services.
  • Deep hands-on expertise in at least two of the following, with working knowledge of all:
    • Java 17+ / Spring Boot 3.x — microservices, virtual threads, security filter chains
    • Angular 15+ — component architecture, signals, Module Federation / microfrontends
    • NestJS / TypeScript — GraphQL resolvers, guards, interceptors, strategy patterns
  • Strong experience with event-driven architectures — Kafka producers/consumers, async messaging, dead-letter queues, idempotent processing.
  • Experience with NoSQL persistence (MongoDB or document stores) — data modeling, query optimization, API-mediated access patterns.
  • Solid understanding of authentication and authorization in enterprise environments — OAuth2, JWT, mTLS, Kerberos, entitlements systems.
  • Experience building multi-tenant or multi-persona platforms where different user types see different data, have different permissions, and follow different workflows.
  • Proven track record of leading Agile engineering teams and delivering in a CI/CD environment with automated quality gates (SonarQube, security scanning).
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Bachelor‘s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with wealth management, trading, or portfolio management platforms — rebalancing, order management, custody, or investment advisory systems.
  • Experience modernizing monolithic applications into microservices using the Strangler pattern.
  • Familiarity with distributed caching (Hazelcast, Redis) and real-time data patterns (WebSockets, SSE).
  • Experience with observability platforms — Splunk, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, or OpenTelemetry.
  • Experience implementing AI-assisted software development practices and engineering automation.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms, container orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Experience managing geographically distributed teams.
  • Series 7 / Series 63 or CFA/CAIA is a plus but not required.
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, or a related field.
