EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Bachelors Degree
Retired Army Officer, Warrant Officer Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university - Senior Army Instructor (SAI)

High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.
PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY :
Senior Army Instructor (SAI) is the department chairman at the Campus level and has primary oversight of the Campus program. SAI works cooperatively and equally with Army Instructor (AI) in all decisions and in equal distribution of curriculum instruction and integrated-curricular activities on and off campus. The SAI will be responsible for
maintaining good relations with school authorities. All JROTC instructors are charged to properly instruct cadets and manage the JROTC unit in accordance with United States Army Cadet Command Regulation 145-2.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. SAI, in coordination with the senior school official, will establish procedures relating to the administration, control, and training of JROTC cadets.
2. Manages and conducts the JROTC unit according to school rules, regulations and customs - SAI as the Department Head will advise school authorities of laws and regulations affecting the unit.
3. Maintains good relations with school authorities, faculty, and the student body.
4. Conducts a public affairs program in the local area among school and community officials, civic groups, parent-teacher groups, and other individuals or groups, designed to further the understanding of the JROTC unit, the school and the Army.
5. Enrolls students in the JROTC program and supports school officials conducting these programs.
6. Responsible for teaching the JROTC curriculum (SAI/AIs); prepares weekly training schedules and modifies and improves instructions given by tailoring instruction to the student's needs, learning styles and abilities.
7. Required to drive school bus/personal vehicle in the performance of assigned tasks, when needed.
8. Maintains contact with parents of cadets regarding cadets' progress in school and within the JROTC program.
9. Ensures JROTC unit areas are neat and orderly, current chain of command photos, cadet creed, core abilities and mission statement are present and all sensitive items are secured.
10. Administers and manages the JROTC program in accordance with North East Independent School District and military laws, regulations, policies, and principles, including anti-hazing policies, in an efficient manner.
11. Recruits students to enroll in the JROTC program - Minimizes turnover between the opening and closing enrollment figures - Strives to maintain an enrollment figure that is at least 25% above the minimum enrollment required for the number of instructors assigned to the school (Example, if two instructors are assigned to a school, the minimum enrollment is 100 cadets; instructors should attempt to maintain an enrollment figure of 125 cadets).
12. Remains current on all school and service requirements.
13. Maintains cadet and program records as required in the Junior Unit Management System (JUMS) by the school and Cadet Command Regulation 145-2.
14. Performs duties as supply officer and maintains clothing and equipment records for cadets.
15. Administers an awards program, promotion system, and disciplinary system that facilitates cadet pride and achievement.
16. Requisitions, receives, stores, issues, and accounts for all government property items and school issued equipment in the JROTC program.
17. Ensures the facilities provided are adequate to support the program requirements.
18. (LEE CAMPUS ONLY) Serves as the coordinator and supervisor of the District's destination Air Rifle Range facility located at LEE campus with responsibility to promote the sport of Air Rifle Marksmanship within the District, the San Antonio community and south Central Texas.
19. (LEE CAMPUS ONLY) Collaborates and cooperates with other NEISD JROTC Air Rifle Instructors in the conduct of a minimum of six (6) multi-school Air Rifle competitions annually.
20. Acts as supervisor and coach for the integrated-curricular teams. Attends all team practice sessions; ensures proper coaching and instructional methods are used to increase cadet proficiency.
21. Accompanies teams to competitive events, field trips, or other off-campus activities.
22. Maintains a well-trained color guard; ensures other cadets are trained to serve as alternate color guard members.
23. Serves as an ambassador for the JROTC program and the US Armed Forces - Maintains good relations with the students, faculty, and local Professors of Military Science at the area universities.
24. Assists cadets in the preparation of applications for College and Career scholarships, Senior ROTC scholarships and service academy appointments.
25. Prepares the unit for the Junior Program Assessment (JPA) and Annual Awards Ceremony and Review.
26. Rehearses the cadet staff briefing; verifies that information contained in the briefing is appropriate and accurate.
27. Ensures the technological equipment required to present briefings and demonstrations of cadet staff proficiency are operational; have a contingency plan for equipment malfunctions.
28. Counsels cadets on their performance within the organization, while emphasizing the importance of good grooming and personal appearance.
29. Ensures all cadet uniforms are properly fitted; including the wear of all authorized accessories.
30. Ensures deficiencies identified during previous inspections have been corrected.
31. Keeps the Director of Army Instruction and the Principal informed on all pertinent actions and activities.
32. Maintains confidentiality of information.
33. Reports to work on time every day.
34. Performs additional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:• Familiar with and aggressively engages cadets in Physical Fitness training, competitive RAIDER Challenge Teams, Drill and Color Guard Teams, Air Rifle Marksmanship Teams, Land Navigation and Military Orienteering Teams and the Junior Leadership and Academic Bowl Teams.
• Excellent personal skills, tact and firm communication skills when engaging students, parents, the public and the media
• Willing to invest extraordinary hours before and after the core curriculum school day and weekends necessary to create and maintain highly ranked competitive integrated-curricular teams
• Creative and energetic about fundraising to support the aggressive integrated-curricular (extra-curricular) activities program
• Creative and innovative in planning and executing awareness and marketing the total JROTC program at the feeder Middle Schools to attract and connect all students to JROTC and an activity as they enter high school
• Valid Texas Driver's License with a driving record that meets the requirements of the District
• Possess a Valid Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver's License with School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) Endorsements within the first six months of employment and maintain this certification throughout employment - Employee must meet the standards set by the Texas Education Agency, Department of Transportation, Texas Department of Public Safety and applicable Board policy and possess a driving record that meets the requirements of the District

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally required to drive personal vehicle in the performance of assigned tasks
