Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) is seeking a driven Facilities Construction Coordinator II to oversee construction, facility renovations, and critical life/safety projects across our institutions. In this dynamic position, you will help steer a team towards success from design to delivery-managing consultant partnerships, inspecting field operations, reviewing architectural plans, and ensuring full compliance with NDCS Engineering procedures and standards. If you excel at fiscal oversight, quality assurance, and driving complex projects across the finish line, join our team and help build a safer, more efficient future for NDCS facilities.

  • Review and recommend approval of pay requests from outside consultants and contractors.
  • Review accuracy of drawings and specifications prepared by outside consultants.
  • Supervise renovation projects, make periodic site visits.
  • Assist in the preparation of budget requests for capital construction, deferred maintenance, and life/safety projects.
  • Review and recommend approval of change orders.
  • Review and assist with final designs for architectural and engineering projects (plans & specs).
  • Review all plans, specifications, and other documents for adherence to NDCS Engineering procedures and requirements.
  • Work with other members of the Engineering team and facility staff during inspection and verification of funding requests at all NDCS facilities.
  • Inspect all DCS facilities to help define and catalog deferred maintenance projects.

Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or construction plus eight years experience in construction or construction inspection. Extensive work experience in construction business may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
Other: Positions in this class must comply with all statutes and Nebraska Administration Code relating to the State of Nebraska Engineers and Architects Regulation Act, including, but not limited to Neb. Rev. Statutes 81-3401 through 81-3455, with particular emphasis to 81-3420 and 81-3421. Valid driver's license is required. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
