The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking an Air Quality Planner to assist with the creation and implementation of strategies to support the transition to alternative fuel vehicles, including supporting the adoption of alternative fuel vehicles for the general public and fleets and planning/implementing associated infrastructure.
A successful candidate should have an interest in reducing the air quality impacts of transportation using alternative fuel vehicles, with emphasis on zero-emission vehicles (i.e. battery-electric or hydrogen fuel cell). This position will support work of the Dallas-Fort Worth Clean Cities Coalition (www.dfwcleancities.org) and efforts to implement emission reduction strategies to improve air quality in the North Central Texas region, with an emphasis on complying with National Ambient Air Quality Standards
Work is highly collaborative, working not only within the NCTCOG staff, but with external stakeholders, including local government staff, fleets, citizen groups, associations, and industry representatives. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Maintaining awareness of the latest developments in the alternative fuel vehicle industry, including topics related to alternative fuel vehicles and associated infrastructure Participating in the implementation of alternative fuel vehicle projects, such as the Clean Heavy Duty Vehicles Program, the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program, and the Electric Vehicle Charger Reliability and Accessibility Accelerator Program Assisting with communication and coordination of regional alternative fuel vehicle and infrastructure efforts Assisting with the identification and communication of region-specific best practices to support alternative fuel adoption Coordinating and attending meetings and outreach events for stakeholders, including educational webinars, peer exchanges, etc. Assisting with the identification, development, and maintenance of grant programs to expand regional adoption of alternative fuel vehicles Assisting with the development and implementation of project and program goals, performance measures, and milestones Drafting responses to stakeholder inquiries Monitoring the impacts of State and federal policies, rules, and legislation for alternative vehicle fuels Drafting correspondences, grant applications, technical reports, newsletters, website and social media content, and other documents Updating and assisting with the restructuring of key websites, including www.dfwcleancities.org Preparing and delivering oral presentations Required Skills Good communication, both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills Familiarity of short-term and/or long-range transportation infrastructure planning preferred Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and familiarity with Microsoft Teams desired Good critical-thinking and problem-solving skills Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing quality of work Ability to work independently and in a team environment Familiarity of alternative fuel vehicles and associated infrastructure, including electric vehicles and charging stations preferred Required Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in analytical, quantitative methods At least one year of work-related experience Starting Salary Range Minimum of $55,601.96 - $66,722.35 annually The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is a voluntary association of, by and for local governments, and was established to assist local governments in planning for common needs, cooperating for mutual benefit, and coordinating for sound regional development. Since 1974, NCTCOG has served as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area and is responsible for developing transportation plans and programs that address the complex needs of the rapidly growing area. The planning area for transportation includes the 12 counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Wise. NCTCOG also serves as a designated recipient for Federal Transit Administration funds.
