Job Summary
The Supplemental Instructor for the Accounting Department at NCTC plays a crucial role in supporting the instructional efforts of teachers by providing additional assistance and guidance to students enrolled in historically difficult accounting courses in traditional and accelerated formats. This position aims to enhance student learning, foster a collaborative learning environment, and contribute to the overall success of students in their academic pursuits including educational credentials and industry-recognized certifications. This is a part-time position with no more than 19 hours a week.
Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Conduct regular group study sessions to review course material, discuss challenging concepts, and provide additional clarification on accounting principles. These sessions aim to reinforce understanding through collaborative learning.
  • Provide guidance and support to students as they work on homework assignments, practice problems, and other coursework. This includes helping students understand the application of accounting concepts and reinforcing problem-solving skills.
  • Assist students in preparing for exams by preparing review materials based on instructor lectures, reviewing key topics, practicing sample questions, and discussing effective study strategies.
  • Conduct for one-on-one consultations to address individual student questions, concerns, and difficulties with the course material. This personalized support can help students who may struggle with specific concepts or need extra assistance.
  • Maintain communication with the primary course instructor to stay informed about the course curriculum, assignments, and any changes. Collaborating with the instructor ensures that supplemental sessions align with the course content and meet the needs of the students.
  • Attend lecture sessions at remote learning sites for student support.
  • Develop supplementary materials such as study guides, practice quizzes, and worksheets to aid student comprehension and reinforce learning objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change based on the needs of the department and the institution.

Required Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field. With a B or higher in classes to be supporting.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and concepts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and students.
  • Flexible hours to accommodate class schedules on and off campus and student schedules, including evenings and weekends.
  • Work closely with the Accounting Department faculty to align supplemental instruction with course objectives
