Responsibilities
  • Functions as a laboratory professional who performs specimen collection techniques or specimen collection instructions that include; venipuncture, capillary draws, urine collection instruction and specimen culture collection instruction
  • Promotes professionalism and interacts with colleagues in a way that promotes a cooperative working environment.
  • Ensure specimens are obtained in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
  • Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to appropriate care provider.
  • Supports organizational priorities to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Attains required competency and demonstrates the ability to follow procedural directions and protocols.
  • Able to prioritize and organize workload and assist other coworkers to maintain productivity.
  • Follows proper protocols for specimen packaging and specimen transport.
  • Responsible for specimen accessioning as assigned.
  • Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport.
  • Performs proper drug screen collection and processing as assigned.
  • Answers laboratory department phone calls.
  • Demonstrates ability to recognize emergent conditions and reacts appropriately.
  • Provides phlebotomy services in a professional and patient centered manner.
  • Engages in self-evaluation of practice and takes action to improve knowledge and skills.         
  • Retains accountability for quality of care given to the patient.
