Job description

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a seasoned Servo Subsystem Engineer to be part of a cutting edge, mission focused team supporting the Deep Space Network (DSN) in Fort Irwin, CA with NASA/JPL.

The Deep Space Network is NASA's international array of giant radio antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions, plus a few that orbit Earth. The DSN also provides radar and radio astronomy observations that improve our understanding of the solar system and the larger universe. The antennas of the Deep Space Network are the indispensable link to explorers venturing beyond the moon. They provide the crucial connection for commanding our spacecraft and receiving their never-before-seen images and scientific information on Earth, propelling our understanding of the universe, our solar system and ultimately, our place within it.

What You'll Do:

The Servo Subsystem Engineer (SSE) is responsible for the overall test, maintenance and repair of the GDSCC servo, surveillance, and weather monitoring subsystems. Supervises the implementation of Engineering Changes to the GDSCC servo, surveillance, and weather monitoring subsystem equipment. Requires a working knowledge of the UNIX operating system, VxWorks, test equipment as well as the site-specific antenna controlling equipment. 

Responsibilities:

  • Interface with internal and external customers
  • Analyze problems and direct repair
  • Document corrective action and analysis of problems using the DRMS and MAXIMO databases
  • Assist operations as required
  • Direct implementation of Engineering Changes. Provide corrections and feedback to the appropriate Operation Engineer
  • Provide input for Engineering Changes
  • Must be able to identify potential hazards and adhere to all safety equipment procedures
  • Must be able to follow applicable regulatory agency and site-specific guidelines and properly document all job-related activities
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and direct oversight to hourly personnel, and perform all assigned duties consistent with this classification
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 5 years with BS/BA; 3 years with MS/MA; 0 years with PhD
  • Experience with Mechanical Drives, Programable Ladder Logic, Data telemetry receiving systems.
  • Working knowledge of UNIX operating system
  • Working knowledge of VxWorks
  • Must be able to obtain a Security Clearance and pass a National Criminal Information Check (NCIC). In order to obtain a clearance, you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship. 
  • Must possess and retain a valid California Driver's License (Real ID).

Target Salary Range$66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations.
