TITLE: Golf Coach

DEPARTMENT: Athletics

REPORTS TO: Athletic Director

CLASSIFICATION: Staff-12 months

EFFECTIVE DATE: TBD

STANDARD WORK HOURS: 37.5 hours per week

LOCATION: On-Site Main Campus

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt


JOB SUMMARY:

The Golf Coach provides leadership, instruction, and administration for Kentucky State University's NCAA Division II Golf program. The position is responsible for all aspects of the program, including recruiting, coaching, student-athlete development, academic support, scheduling, budgeting, compliance, and program administration. The Golf Coach is expected to foster a culture of integrity, sportsmanship, academic achievement, and competitive excellence while ensuring compliance with University policies and all applicable NCAA and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) rules and regulations.


This position requires a consistent on-campus presence to support student-athletes, collaborate with Athletics staff and University departments, oversee practices and competitions, and participate in departmental and University activities.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Organizes, plans, and conducts individual and team practices, conditioning sessions, competitions, and skill development activities.
  • Develops practice plans and competitive strategies designed to maximize student-athlete performance.
  • Recruits qualified prospective student-athletes in accordance with NCAA, SIAC, and University rules through evaluations, tournaments, campus visits, recruiting events, electronic communications, and other approved recruiting activities.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for all aspects of the Golf program, including planning, scheduling, travel, equipment, and program operations.
  • Promotes academic success by monitoring student-athlete academic progress and collaborating with academic support personnel.
  • Maintains compliance with NCAA Division II, SIAC, University, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Develops and manages the Golf program operating budget while exercising responsible stewardship of University resources.
  • Coordinates team travel, equipment purchases, uniforms, and scheduling of competitions.
  • Supervises assistant coaches, graduate assistants, student workers, and volunteers as assigned.
  • Represents Kentucky State University and the Golf program in a professional manner with prospective students, alumni, donors, community organizations, media, and the public.
  • Collaborates with Athletics staff and other University departments to support student-athlete success and departmental initiatives.
  • Participates in fundraising, alumni engagement, community outreach, and promotional activities that support the Athletics Department.
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Extensive knowledge of the sport of golf, coaching techniques, and player development.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division II, SIAC, and University rules governing intercollegiate athletics.
  • Knowledge of student-athlete recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Ability to develop competitive practice plans and game strategies.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners.
  • Ability to supervise, mentor, and evaluate assigned personnel.
  • Knowledge of budget administration and fiscal management.
  • Ability to analyze problems and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to utilize technology and software commonly used in collegiate athletics.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • This position has supervisory responsibility for assigned assistant coaches, graduate assistants, student workers, and volunteers.


OTHER DUTIES:

  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support the mission and operational needs of the Department of Athletics.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible coaching experience in golf or a closely related athletic program.
  • Collegiate coaching and recruiting experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance requirements is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed in office, athletic, and outdoor environments.
  • Requires regular evening, weekend, holiday, and travel commitments associated with practices, competitions, recruiting, and University events.
  • Requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, coaching, and supervising athletic activities.
  • May require work in varying weather conditions and outdoor environments.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of equipment weighing up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Requires travel for recruiting, competitions, meetings, and professional development.
