Description
This position is responsible for assisting the head coach with planning and organizing all phases of the football program. Responsibilities include coaching and administrative duties as directed by the head coach but are not limited to; assisting in practice planning and field coaching (running drills), position-specific player development and skills training, recruiting, game preparation, scouting, and community involvement. Additionally, this position provides leadership and support for the vision and strategies of the head coach.
Essential Job Duties
Teaching/Coaching (51%)
  • Assist the head coach/defensive coordinator with coaching the defensive unit of the team;
  • Coach the safeties;
  • Instruct, teach, and coach student-athletes during practice and competitions;
  • Assess performance and provide practical instructions to student-athletes;
  • Conduct video analysis and instruction as a teaching and preparation tool for games and competitions;
  • Assist with coaching in practices and/or competition strategy, Responsible for assisting in game preparation and strategy.
Recruiting (25%)
  • Assist in recruiting quality, academically- and athletically-qualified student-athletes;
  • Ensure academic success of student-athletes;
  • Assist in retaining current student-athletes as team members;
  • Monitor academic performance and counsel student-athletes relative to academic success, progress, and eligibility, in cooperation with other divisional compliance staff;
  • Assist with summer camps and events.
Administration (24%)
  • Assist with scheduling games, practices, team meetings, etc. from the direction of the head coach;
  • Attend meetings with alumni and enhance public relations as needed;
  • Assist in field maintenance;
  • Maintain oversight of program budget(s) as directed by the head coach;
  • Maintain adherence to NCAA, UAC, and university rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and processes;
  • Support the philosophy, goals, and mission of both the University and its intercollegiate athletics programs;
  • Assist with cultivating and soliciting donors, as needed;
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
  • Act as the liaison between student-athletes, head coach, and academic advisors;
  • Coordinate public relations, community service, travel, and technology needs for the team;
  • Other responsibilities will be assigned in an administrative capacity - these may include a community outreach program for student-athletes and organizing a program that encourages former athletic alumni to support the department.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree is required;
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have three to five years of successful collegiate, club, or professional recruiting and coaching experience;
  • Experience recruiting quality student-athletes is preferred;
  • Candidates with playing/coaching experience at the intercollegiate level in football and who can demonstrate a proven ability to recruit quality student-athletes will be given preference;
  • National recruiting experience preferred;
  • Experience with NCAA compliance and knowledge of Division I football and NCAA rules preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
  • Current, valid driver's license in good standing is required;
  • CPR certification, renewed annually, is required.
ATHLETICS ADDENDUM:
As an Assistant Football Coach for the University of North Alabama, you will be expected to comply with all NCAA and Conference rules and regulations and with the provisions of gender equity as specified by Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. You are required to participate in an annual review of relevant Conference and NCAA rules and regulations governing your position responsibilities. You are expected to advise the Athletics Director if you are aware of any violation of NCAA/conference rules or regulations in the University's athletics program. Violation of NCAA/Conference rules or regulations shall subject you to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures and as required by Section 11.2 of the NCAA Manual. Further, you may be terminated or disciplined for any act or omission that may give rise to a finding that the institution has violated an NCAA rule or regulation. You shall also be subject to disciplinary action for violation of any University rules, policies, regulations, or the provisions of Title IX pursuant to the policies and procedures governing University staff employees.

Paid Time Off
- Annual leave is accrued for each hour worked. During the first 2 years of employment, the accrual is 10 workdays. After completion of 2 years of continuous service, eligible employees are entitled to 12 days of annual leave and, for each additional year of service, annual leave is increased by one day per year to a maximum of 20 days after 10 years.
- Full-time regular staff members are entitled to 96 work hours (12 workdays) of sick leave each year at the employee's regular rate of pay regardless of length of service.
