Campus Enterprises is NC State University's division of retail and hospitality organizations - NC State Dining, NC State Stores, Lonnie Poole Golf Course, NC State Student Centers (Witherspoon and Talley), and the One Card Office. Each department is dedicated to providing service excellence, value, and enrichment of the student experience in support of academic success.
The Campus Enterprises Marketing and Communications office executes strategic and creative development of marketing communications that support the division and its departments with integrated communication solutions that include creating and consulting on digital communications; social media strategy; writing and editing; outreach and promotion; marketing strategy; situational communication; design; video; and photography.

The Marketing and Communications office also enforces the university brand and style guidelines and supports University Communications and Marketing and other campus marketing teams on various university-wide initiatives.

Essential Job Duties
Help shape the voice of NC State Dining and tell the story behind one of the university's most visible student services. As the Communications and Outreach Specialist, you will lead strategic communications that connect students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors with the people, programs, and values that define NC State Dining. Through compelling storytelling and thoughtful outreach, you will help elevate the department's commitment to nutrition, sustainability, and the overall student experience.
Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications & Brand Storytelling

  • Lead the department's editorial voice by developing and executing integrated marketing and communications initiatives across digital and print platforms.
  • Create engaging content-including news releases, newsletters, presentations, social media, and other communications-that aligns with departmental priorities, brand standards, and AP Style.
Media Relations & Outreach

  • Serve as the primary communications resource for media relations, helping communicate the department's mission, programs, and initiatives to internal and external audiences.
  • Develop and maintain communication plans and content calendars to ensure timely, consistent messaging across multiple channels.
Audience Engagement & Collaboration

  • Leverage student insights to inform communication strategies and create meaningful engagement with the campus community.
  • Collaborate with Dining leadership and campus partners to develop communications that promote NC State Dining's values, nutrition initiatives, sustainability efforts, and services.

  • Model the Division's mission and values and foster a positive, cohesive workplace and congeniality among co-workers.
  • Understand the goals and culture of the organization and understand how employees' work activities, teamwork and customer service impact clients. Work with your supervisor and colleagues to understand these goals and the culture.
  • Adhere to all University policies, procedures and regulations, as well as the Division standard operating practices and protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the Division of Campus Enterprises business needs are met.
  • Position may need to travel to NC State Dining units using an NC State vehicle.
Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Marketing Experience: Professional-level experience in planning and/or executing marketing and communication initiatives across multiple channels, including digital and print.
  • Communication Skills: Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, with ability to vary writing style to communicate with a range of target audiences. Knowledge of AP Style and Brand guidelines. Demonstrated experience creating a variety of content, including news releases, white papers, presentations, social media, newsletters and more, according to a content calendar/schedule.
  • Technical Proficiency: Google Suite products, including Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc. Experience working in a project management system and an email marketing system. Basic knowledge of the WordPress platform.
  • Work Environment: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution. Self-starter who is comfortable working independently and in a team environment. Ability to follow through on tasks with minimal supervision.
    Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability.

  • A valid North Carolina driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of start date.
