Sr. Director, Product Experience Analytics Lead

Group and Position Summary

The NBA's Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) team is responsible for delivering the NBA experience to fans everywhere through best-in-class digital products, including NBA League Pass, NBA ID, and the NBA App. The team drives innovation across product, content, and distribution to deepen fan engagement, grow audiences, and power the league's global digital business.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Product & Experience Analytics director to serve as the senior-most analytics leader supporting Product, Content, and App experiences across the NBA's global digital ecosystem.


This role is a highly strategic, senior individual contributor who operates with broad scope, influence, and accountability, acting as the primary thought partner to senior product and business leaders. You will define how success is measured across the fan journey, establish scalable analytics frameworks, and drive step-change improvements in engagement, retention, and monetization.

You will own the end-to-end analytics strategy across product and content experiences-spanning measurement, data collection, experimentation, business intelligence, and insight generation-while ensuring alignment with broader league-wide data and business objectives.

This role requires a unique combination of deep technical expertise, business acumen, and executive-level communication, with the ability to influence roadmap decisions and shape long-term strategic direction.

Major Responsibilities

Strategic Analytics & Business Leadership
  • Serve as the primary analytics leader and strategic advisor to Product, Content, and App leadership
  • Define and drive the analytics vision, roadmap, and operating model for product and content experiences
  • Translate complex behavioral and business data into clear strategic recommendations that influence senior leadership decisions
  • Partner with executive stakeholders to align analytics priorities with company-wide growth and engagement goals
Product & Content Experience Measurement & Analytics
  • Own the measurement strategy for fan journeys once they land in the product ecosystem from onboarding through engagement and retention
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to define instrumentation requirements, ensuring data is collected safely and accurately, and embedding analytics best practices into the development cycle
  • Learn and evolve the data taxonomy, tracking, and tagging framework, translating business questions into scalable measurement decisions
  • Identify opportunities to improve product and content performance through advanced behavioral analysis and segmentation
  • Partner with Product and Content teams to inform roadmap prioritization and feature development
Business Intelligence & Data Strategy
  • Lead the development of scalable business intelligence frameworks, including KPI design, executive dashboards, and self-serve analytics capabilities
  • Define and standardize core metrics and data definitions across product and content teams
  • Partner with Data Engineering and BI teams to ensure robust data architecture, instrumentation, and governance
  • Drive adoption of BI tools and data products across the organization, enabling data-driven decision-making at scale
Hands-On Analysis & Technical Execution
  • Conduct and oversee deep, hands-on analysis using SQL and complementary tools to explore user behavior, diagnose performance issues, and uncover opportunities
  • Work directly with large-scale behavioral datasets (e.g., clickstream, video consumption, subscription data) to generate insights
  • Collaborate with advanced insights and data science teams on predictive modeling, segmentation, and personalization initiatives
Experimentation & Optimization Leadership
  • Define and evolve the experimentation strategy across product and content experiences
  • Lead hypothesis development, prioritization frameworks, and test design in partnership with cross-functional teams
  • Ensure experimentation insights are translated into measurable business impact and scaled learnings
Cross-Functional Impact & Leadership
  • Act as a unifying force across analytics functions, ensuring consistency, rigor, and alignment
  • Provide technical and strategic leadership to shared analytics resources, including embedded analysts and external partners
  • Mentor and elevate junior analysts through guidance, code reviews, and project leadership
  • Establish best practices for analytics workflows, documentation, and knowledge sharing

Required Education/Professional Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in product analytics, data science, business intelligence, or related fields
  • Proven track record of operating as a senior IC or analytics leader influencing product and business strategy
  • Experience in digital products, media, streaming, or subscription-based businesses strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success in building and scaling analytics frameworks and BI capabilities within complex organizations
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MS, or equivalent) preferred

Required Skills/Knowledge Attributes

  • Proven ability to influence product strategy and decision-making through data-driven insights
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and experience working with large-scale behavioral datasets
  • Strong expertise in business intelligence, dashboarding, and data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker, etc.)
  • Deep understanding of product analytics, user behavior, and lifecycle metrics
  • Experience working in a cloud-based data warehouse environment (Azure, Snowflake, BigQuery, etc.)
  • Strong Experience with experimentation frameworks and A/B testing methodologies
  • Familiarity with digital analytics tools (e.g., Amplitude, Adobe Analytics) and modern data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks)
  • Experience with Python or R is a plus
  • Operates with director-level autonomy and accountability
  • Influences VP- and SVP-level stakeholders on strategic decisions
  • Drives measurable business impact across engagement, retention, and revenue
  • Sets the standard for analytical rigor and excellence across the organization
  • Knowledge of basketball and a passion for the NBA and sports is helpful and welcomed

Salary Range:

$195,000 - $220,000
