A NAVSEA job refers to a position within the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), which is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining U.S. Navy ships, submarines, and combat systems. NAVSEA offers a wide range of career opportunities in engineering, project management, logistics, cybersecurity, and other technical fields. Employees work to support the Navy's mission by ensuring fleet readiness and advancing maritime technology. These positions are typically government or contractor roles that require security clearances and specialized skills.
In a NAVSEA role, you can expect to work on projects involving the design, maintenance, modernization, and lifecycle support of naval ships and submarines. Your daily responsibilities may include reviewing technical drawings, coordinating with contractors, ensuring compliance with military specifications, and collaborating with engineers and project managers to meet key milestones. Work is often conducted in multidisciplinary teams, and you’ll have opportunities to engage with both military and civilian personnel. These projects are complex and can involve overseeing budgets, schedules, and quality control, providing a robust and varied work environment.
To thrive in a NAVSEA (Naval Sea Systems Command) position, you typically need expertise in engineering, project management, and maritime systems, often supported by a degree in engineering or physical sciences. Familiarity with technical specifications, systems engineering tools (such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks), and relevant security clearances like DoD Secret or Top Secret is common. Strong analytical thinking, effective teamwork, and clear communication are prized soft skills in NAVSEA roles. These competencies are vital to ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and successful execution of naval engineering and support projects.

The Design Integration Manager will coordinate with NAVSEA technical authorities, the PMS 385 Program Office, Warfare Centers, Military Sealift Command (MSC), industry partners and shipyards throughout the design effort.
• Serve as the lead design integration representative supporting the NAVSEA 05D Ship Design Manager.
• Lead and mentor a team of senior contractor engineers and subject matter experts, fostering collaboration, resolving technical challenges and driving execution to meet program objectives and milestones.
• Coordinate design efforts across electrical, structural, mechanical and naval architecture disciplines.
• Evaluate design products for technical completeness, interface management and compliance with Navy design standards.
• Lead technical discussions involving engineering trade studies, design reviews and configuration management.
• Review contract deliverables, engineering analyses, calculations, drawings and technical documentation.
• Support Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR), technical interchange meetings and integrated product team (IPT) meetings.
• Coordinate engineering issue resolution between government stakeholders, contractors and shipyards.
• Monitor technical risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Support development of engineering change proposals (ECPs), design decision memoranda and technical recommendations.
• Assist in schedule development and tracking of engineering deliverables.
• Ensure compliance with applicable NAVSEA instructions, military specifications and commercial shipbuilding standards.
• Provide executive-level briefings and written technical recommendations to NAVSEA leadership.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

• Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering integration efforts.
• Strong knowledge of NAVSEA ship design processes and technical authority responsibilities.
• Experience coordinating design products among multiple engineering organizations.
• Ability to review engineering drawings, calculations, specifications and technical documentation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Active Secret security clearance.
Desired Qualifications
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Master's degree in Engineering or Engineering Management.
• Experience supporting NAVSEA 05, SEA 21, PAE-Maritime or Military Sealift Command (MSC).
• Experience with heavy lift ship design, auxiliary ships, or conversion programs.
• Familiarity with ABS Rules, Navy Design Data Sheets, and NAVSEA technical standards.
• Experience supporting Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETRs).
