Client Overview:
Our client, a respected nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the LGBTQ+ community, is seeking a compassionate and community-focused Bilingual Health Insurance Navigator to assist individuals in accessing health insurance and public benefit programs. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about health equity, social justice, and providing exceptional client support to diverse communities.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$25.65/hr
Position Overview:
The Bilingual Health Insurance Navigator will provide one-on-one guidance to individuals seeking health insurance coverage, helping clients understand their options, complete enrollments, renew coverage, and resolve insurance-related concerns. This highly client-facing role requires someone who is personable, empathetic, and comfortable building trust with individuals from diverse backgrounds. The ideal candidate has previous experience with Medicaid or health insurance enrollment, is bilingual in English and Spanish (Spanish strongly preferred), and is genuinely committed to supporting and advocating for the LGBTQ+ community.
Responsibilities of the Bilingual Health Insurance Navigator:
  • Assist individuals with health insurance eligibility, enrollment, renewals, and coverage questions.
  • Educate clients on available health insurance programs and public benefits.
  • Support clients with appeals, grievances, and troubleshooting insurance issues.
  • Deliver services in a culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and inclusive manner.
  • Conduct outreach at community events, health fairs, and partner organizations.
  • Present educational information to community groups and local organizations.
  • Maintain accurate client records using Salesforce and other tracking systems.
  • Collaborate with community partners and internal teams to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and occasional off-site events as needed.
Required Experience/Skills for the Bilingual Health Insurance Navigator:
  • Previous experience with Medicaid enrollment or health insurance enrollment is required.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is required (Spanish is strongly preferred).
  • Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Passion for working directly with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent organizational and communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of client interactions with professionalism and empathy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and serving the LGBTQ+ community.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Bilingual Health Insurance Navigator:
  • New York State Health Marketplace or Patient Navigator experience.
  • Experience working within nonprofit, healthcare, or community-based organizations.
  • Familiarity with government assistance programs and public benefits.
  • Experience conducting community outreach or public education.
  • Experience using Salesforce or similar CRM systems is a plus.
Education Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
