Job description

As a Software Engineering Manager supporting NAVAIR, you'll lead a talented group of professionals to create innovative, mission-critical solutions that empower naval aviation and defense operations. Your expertise will help shape cutting-edge systems, enhance national security, and drive technological advancement for our nation.


  • Plans, directs, and coordinates all activities associated with creating software across multiple functional areas supporting NAVAIR mission critical aircraft systems.
  • Leads multiple programs / projects related to SW development, test, and sustainment including aircraft mission systems SW, simulation and distributed simulation software, and SW applications.
  • Prioritizes and allocates projects, products, and resources with the assistance of architects and managers.
  • Participates in the strategic decisions about technology, definition, architecture, and implementation of the software products.
  • Analyze and assess software architectures for potential technical refresh improvements.
  • Observe that development of mission critical software follows modern software practices.
  • Makes staffing decisions, such as hiring and placement of personnel.
  • Directs software development projects to include, ensuring that projects are completed on time and according to quality standards, facilitating communication upward and across project team including project status, justifications for variances and technical information.
  • Organizes projects through development of a project plan which includes communication of product goals as defined by top management, definition of project strategy, identification of the roles and responsibilities of key project groups, development of a schedule with key milestones, identification of risks, contingency plans and allocation of project resources.
  • Monitors technology trends such as emerging standards for new technology opportunities.
  • Supports Business Development activities including marketing, capture, and proposal writing.
  • Provide leadership with strategic direction, support business growth initiatives, and collaborate with other organizations in the company in the pursuit of business opportunities.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or MIS, and 10-12 years of related work experience -or- Master's degree and 8-10 years of related work experience.
  • 5+ years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Top Secret clearance required.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in Software/Systems Engineering supporting DoD aircraft systems, DoD weapons systems, DoD mission systems or DoD support systems, consisting of the design, development, integration and system testing of computer hardware and software.
  • Experience working with NAVAIR programs is preferred.
  • Knowledge of DoW and DoN SW development standards and practices.
  • Familiarity with competitive landscape at Pax River and NAVAIR as well as familiarity with NAVAIR acquisition is preferred

Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
