Job Summary

The STEAD School guide will be adolescent-advocates and educators with the desire to equally: a) teach their "speciality," b) share their talents & interests in other subjects, AND c) embrace the responsibility of a "generalist educator" by fostering the social and emotional health of adolescents.

The STEAD School guide is part of the community working together to address some of the world's largest challenges. Diverse people, fully sharing their perspectives and experiences, interdependent on one another make this community inclusive, whole and healthy. With a reverence for adolescence, they make this community home for learners, leaders, visionaries, collaborators and environmental stewards.

The STEAD School English, Language, Arts (ELA) plays a vital role in developing students reading, writing, and critical thinking skills, fostering a love for literature, and preparing them for effective communication in various contexts.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Maintain positivity and professionalism
  • Thorough understanding of the pedagogy and best practices of education.
  • Desire to teach secondary (high) school-aged children and ability to adapt to their developmental status.
  • The ability to design lessons that teach curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods such as the flipped classroom, lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and individual or collaborative projects and research.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree is required
  • State accreditation and licensing preferred
  • Masters degree highly preferred
  • Ongoing maintenance of all requirements regarding professional courses and in-services required.
  • Prior teaching experience is highly preferred.
  • Specialized training in teaching secondary school-aged children is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to traverse school facilities and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
