GENERAL FUNCTION
At LensCrafters, we are passionate about the health and wellbeing of our patients and customers. We've expanded that passion to Surgical Clinics where we can provide even more specialty eye care and services in the neighborhoods we serve.
On surgery days, the Ophthalmic Surgical Tech handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. They have an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. They have the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care and ensuring surgical sepsis is adhered to during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. On non-surgery days, the team member supports in general preparation, administration, and other assigned duties within the Clinic.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure
  • Checks chart for consent, H&P, and documentation of pre-op medication and allergies
  • Scrubs, gowns, and gloves
  • Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure
  • Checks for accuracy of implant order and ensures implant availability
  • Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants
  • Helps in draping sterile field
  • Passes instruments, etc., to surgeon during procedure
  • Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure
  • Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization
  • Assists other members of team with terminal cleaning of room
  • Utilizes proper aseptic techniques in prepping room for the next patient

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Relevant experience in a medical, surgical, or optical environment
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Strong basic math skills
  • Must have a strong command of the English language for all written correspondence & oral communication
  • Committed team player
  • Dedication to detail and process
  • Proven ability to problem solve

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Relevant medical or surgical certifications/degrees
  • Strong knowledge of basic optics
  • State licensure (if applicable)
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) &/or Certified Ophthalmic Executive (COE)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
